Going to write my first novel without a plan. I have a vague premise, but I want to write one where I do like zero planning first. Thoughts? Do you plan and to what extent? What do your outlines look like?

I don't think that's a bad way to go about it. Better to at least write your thoughts down in some fashion before you forget them.

how the fuck are you gonna write a novel if you don't even know what it's gonna be about? and have zero idea how it will be structured?

If you start to burn out from the initial high of diving into something new I would suggest bullet pointing mid/late chapters. Especially if you get into a rut wondering how to make plot point X to happen.

That’s called “pantsing” as opposed to “plotting”. You will likely write yourself into a corner and never finish. But maybe you’re driven enough to write every day, 7 days a week, for two or three months until you finish and will have the creativity on command to write yourself out of any corners you write yourself in to.

At the very least I hope you have a character arc and ending in mind, otherwise you aren’t writing a story you’re just rambling.

It's a valid technique, if you're able to pull it off.

Yeah, but it's a containment thread for this sort of slop, so that anons don't shit up the general.
