>Is X worth reading?
This is the stupidest question of them all. Just read the damn book and you'll find out for yourself.

With my schedule I can only truly read about 10 books per year. I am not wasting my time on bullshit.

I know a lot of people talk about downloading the pdfs but I think the people who actually finish what they're reading that way are a minority as long sessions are only ever enjoyable on e-readers (and I'd wager only a small minority of people here use them).

It's a silly question but not for that reason. At least not predominantly. It's a silly question because everything depends on circumstances:
How many books a year do you have time to read?
What essential books have you still not read?
Can you read this book in the original Arabic (when it's worth reading) or not (when it isn't)?
etc

The best you can hope for is to be warned when a book is rubbish that *no-one* should bother with. That’s something I suppose.

Your most precious resource is time. Reading a book a week limits you to 52 books a year. Even a book every third day is just 120 books a year.
Spend that time with slop and it never comes back. Asking if it’s worth it is a good question. However, trusting the opinion of /lit/ is not.

Reading the book won't tell you if there is a newer more up to date alternative that makes the older one not worth reading

So, am I supposed to read books like "50 shades of gray" because listening to the review is somehow a "dumb" thing to do now?
Really, anon, really?
