Is Machiavelli worth reading today? Or was he the sigma grindset of his time?

He wasn't worth reading in his own time.

What are Machiavelli's main ideas anyway? Didn't he mostly talk about politics of his day rather than psychology?

You will quickly the difference in intellect between the people who tell you to read it and the people who tell you not to (they haven't read it). It's famous for a reason

Are you interested in Machiavelli or are you interested in quasi-homosexual YouTube channels?

Why isn't it? The Prince is drivel written by a random guy with no experience of the subject matter and propagated by other random people with no experience with it. Go ahead and read it yourself if you don't believe me. There's probably more insight in those "get rich quick by writing a book about how to get rich quick and then conning retards into buying it" books.

Except I've read the book and it is a good philosophical reference book for the systems existing at the time and a milestone in the study of political science. It was immensely popular with rulers for hundreds of years. It is not just like any orher self-help book bullshit, it was THE self-help book of the time for RULERS. You've evidently read enough wikipedia article to feel superior about the fact that you know more than Machiavelli at the time, which is completely retarded and does not disminish the value of the book.
(You) are not supposed to follow its advices genius

>trap or teach?
>what is the correlation between capability and verbiage?
>fortune or virtue? Why is incompetence frequently rewarded in leaders when they should be resigned to unstable tenure but something like intelligence is punished when it should be worthy of higher praise?

Are you quoting somebody or do you want us to dissect the practically of Machiavelli's realpolitiks? It's an elaboration of one type of government and one that has been both criticized and praised by the rulers of the time (see Frederick the Great for both, at two periods of his life)

>limited the death penalty
Not a fan.

>revamped the currency and tax codes
Didn't live long enough to see the full benefit.

>over reliance on Junkers and nationalized industry
Devolved into a hybrid presidential republic after he died.

>outlasted an empress
I'm a fan.

>so I guess Machiavelli was right?

If The Prince is garbage then The Art of War and all basic military and political strategem literature are garbage as well.

The Art of War is actually quite insightful and I would strongly recommend reading it instead of The Prince.

>No.
>I don't want your opinion
>Okay, then read it if that's what you want to do, and then you'll understand why it was a waste of time
A point-by-point refutation would be as much of a waste of time as writing it in the first place was.
