bump. would love to read Dark Alliance but copies are so fucking expensive. I don't know if they count but I also liked Aberration in the Heartland of the Real, CHAOS by Tom O'Neil and Waco by Jeff Guinn

I got the audiobook for my commute a few years ago and the narrator switches to stereotypical black and hispanic accents when quoting drug dealers and smugglers. Made me chuckle a little.

Anything on Warren Jeffs the polygamist? I have a tad obsessive interest these days with millenarian movements, whether recent journalistic accounts or in history. Kind of like I did when I was a kid in the 90s.

info on the author is elusive to even AI, but think it is awesome work despite that - and is an example of where journalists fear to tread.

movie does it such a huge disservice that it must be a cia production. the book posits that the cia funds silly things on purpose to distract from the horrendous things they do, whereas the movie is only about the silly things.

Not that poster, but his book reminded me of Michelle Remembers too. I remember being pretty impressed with it when I was about 13.

at a certain point I just dont see the point in studying CIA crimes anymore.
We know they are evil. They wont stop they wont be punished.

Whats the true consenus on Webbs reporting? Was the CIA fully complicit in the inner city drug trade or are his detractors/critics correct?

the point behind studying the crimes of the state is so that one can be informed about hidden dangers, and then do their best to inform others so that they stay safe.

the State will never allow books to destroy it: if that were so, the world would be a much different place. it is our responsibility to keep this information alive so that when the State does inevitably collapse (as all states do), the people of the future will think twice before they allow such large bodies of people unchecked power

Turns out "adult woman uncovers deeply repressed memories of being groomed and abused by satanists as a child" is a whole ass genre.
