There is certainly this emancipatory trend to feminism, but I think there's another trend of developing woman's self-identification which goes undermentioned. Feminism doesn't just say that women are oppressed and that's bad, it also often looks at the particular ways in which women navigate various aspects of society. Some of these might not be a direct manifestation of oppression but are just a different mode of being which deserves examination. A lot of articles in feminist journals go down this route. For example women online typically have a different set of experiences than men online. There are some studies about the degree to which social media can hamper a woman's self-image that doesn't seem to be quite there with men.
So in a sense, feminism is like the study of woman and the surrounding gender environment.
