It's actually extremely manipulative and shows subtle manipulation and abuse of the boy at the hands of the older man. The fiction is written in a pastoral light mode to make it all seem like a game and to hide the fact of obvious abuse of a boy. It's essentially written by pedos, so of course they would lighten up the fucked up situation to excuse themselves and not confront the utter horror of reality.
Lolita is exemplary, because it shows how a pedo twists everything to justify his rape - Lolita actually wanted, I was the good guy, it was love. If you're smart enough to see beyond the fancy prose style and the surface layer you'll understand that Lolita is an actual horror novel. Remember that Nabokov collected butterflies and was aware of mimicry. I think this interest enters heavily into Lolita, where an unreliable narrators presents himself as something else than he really is: a fucking pedo.
The boys making it happen is also a very pedophilic excuse, since it shifts the blame away from the adult onto the boys, who is easily manipulated.
