At what point did you put aside the distraction of fanciful poetry and escapist novels and instead take up Philosophy?

10 years ago I realised that philosophy was a waste of time for me to study and that literature is vastly superior
Sometimes I feel like studying philosophy and sadly I read 10 pages of Plotinus last night, but ultimately I know that it's a waste

When the Lord had me pondering Him in my soul, things took a turn for the metaphysical.

Philosophy is mostly escapism for people who lack fluid intelligence but have a deep longing, sort of like how porn is importsnt for manlets with a high sex drive and a small dick and canโ€™t fuck. That is to say we all like porn, just like we all like philosophy, but only men who are lacking build their taste for it into their identity and lifestyle

I don't like pornography, it spoils everything. I loathe it. I tolerate philosophy--as in Plato, and some bits of writing that have a philosophical bend for logic & rhetorical sake. But even though my religion I don't consider a crutch, it feels more like I am simply obliged, in the same way I'm obliged to drink water.
Theology is admittedly quite enjoyable and edifying, the way I see it.
But I do feel an obligation to love wholesomely and not reductively & selfishly. The real reason being that everything second rate is costly and causes chaos. I really have a moralizing and puritanical bend, though it wasn't because I was 'told' exactly. I found out the hard way!

>TL;DR: Philosophy, faith, science, shouldn't always be characterized as a venture that is a crutch. It's what us creatures do. In the same way a dog needs to wag it's tail, or a butterfly needs to feed on some pollen.

>*I posit survival causes one to philosophize. Of course some do it as 'mental masturbation.'
>Of that you're extremely correct.
