Both cases are a sad condemnation of the state of the romance between both partners. You shouldn't want the mother of your children to be desecrated. Likewise, shouldn't the father of your children be respected, shouldn't you be trying to preserve the integrity of your marriage from outside influences, and shouldn't the partners of a marriage reserve the most intense feelings of any interpersonal relationship for each other?
But I guess with mediocre marriages, neither person *really* likes that person all that much. And in the age of the internet, everybody knows on a deeper level that there's somebody hotter, and in the age of permissibility, that they can have all that they want (which in reality is unlimited) without giving anything up either. Which is where your comment:

I really don't know what to make of this. Even today, I don't think most men realize that they are disposable and not enough for a woman. And I don't think most women realize that there are greater things in life than sexual pleasure, and that if they choose pleasure over fulfillment, then they will lose out on fulfillment. There are consequences to choices.
