>>24524454 (OP)I brought a lot of heat to Waldun back in the day. He was really just a one-time thing when he was first posted, and he wasn't even the subject of the post. We were mocking Dark Academia and its sycophants. But I was intrigued by Waldun, so I waited a few days and reposted the thread, but this time I shifted the focus to Waldun. That really caught on. People started going through his videos and noticing how much of a preening pseud he was: declaring himself a Renaissance Man and a veritable Polymath. Then there were of course the inevitable videos explaining how he was a genius because he managed to surmount the insurmountable quadrilogy of Infinite Jest, Ulysses, Gravity's Rainbow, and In Search of Lost Time.
It was then that I discovered Waldun was a blooming writer. He had a website/blog and he had recently released his debut novel: The Learned Disguise. I quickly googled the title. It had a few 4 and 5 star reviews on Goodreads and Amazon. They were very obviously just close friends and family whose reviews amounted to congratulating Robin Wu Chang on (self)-publishing a novel. That's when I noticed there was exactly one copy left for sale on Amazon. I jokingly posted a thread saying I was going to purchase the book, read it careful, and critically shred Waldun to pieces. I knew the latter point was easily achievable because the free preview was atrocious. The writing was attempting to put up a facade of erudition and twee quaintness, but it was so amateurishly constructed and artificial.
Needless to say, kdbooks saw my thread and did in earnest that which was mere jest. And the rest is history...the kdbooks review...the Waldun apology...the promise of L'Académie...the faux hype and anticipated schaudenfraude...L'Académie's release and butchering by kdbooks...Waldun's second apology...other L'Académie related fallout...Waldun's multiple bipolar channel redirections...Waldun giving up on being a writer...It all starts with me. I killed Waldun. Sometimes I regret it. Sometimes I think I did Waldun and the world a favor. But one day I'll pay for what I did...I may even be paying for it now...and these past 5 years...and during the years that lie ahead of me...
