>>24528695Here's the first part. A fascinating (?) glimpse into the kind of thoughts I was having at the time.
>>24528693>did his job and gave out punishment>said the beating is enough to punish him under Roman law(there is no other form of law)>crucify him! crucify him!>be kind and give this guy an out, since he has plenty of fans they should->barnabas! we choose barnabas!>already did my job and the dude seems to have a death wish anyway whats the worst that could happen
>>24528706>I see no evidence that he is guilty of the crimes he is accused of >meh, lets beat him anyways to shut up the haters>wtf the haters are still not shutting up>uuuh… guess we make this a little game where we ask random idiots that have no information on the matter other than gossip on the streets>oh, even better idea, lets not just ask them wether he should get killed or not, lets ask them which one of two random people they want killed because someone needs to get killed to satisfy the bloodlust of these people>oh well, they chose they guy that already got beat and that I think did nothing wrong>tough luck but - ultimately not my problem, not like I wanted this, THEY wanted that damn, he was such a cuck, lol

Anyone else no longer read domestic and local news in the US because it's too depressing? I still read world news though.
>>24528715my only source of news is when I get wind of some happening, so I go to pol to check it out
then I realize that it was a nothingburger and nothing ever happens, so I lose interest again and go back to ignoring the news completely
>>24528715I'm not from the US tho
What am I trying so hard for? Who gives a shit? I'm just another copy+paste 20 something touch starved lonely white guy. The human equivalent of the weeds that grow through the cracks in the sidewalk. 500 years ago I would have been conscripted and used as cannon fodder during a failed assault on some old French fortress and my body would have been trampled into the mud to rot. Today I'll stumble through the days at my McJob and the nights in my shithole apartment until I unceremoniously die in a traffic accident or kill myself. Who cares?

>>24528750what do you think?
>>24528727it’s painted as humility but it’s actually deeply narcissistic, isn’t it? it’s not ‘I’m nothing,’ rather it’s ‘let me tell you, in rich detail, exactly how nothing I am.’
self-mythologizing, even in a negative light is the same psychological mechanism as grandiosity, just flipped.
>>24528753sure, in a way
it‘s mourning the fact that after all, you aren‘t the center of the universe, unlike previously assumed or hoped
but there can also be peace in this realization, a burden off the shoulders, expectations of excellence and individuality on yourself that drop away
the ego craves mythologizing the self, and I think realizing you are not nothing but also not everything is the sane middle ground between self hatred and delusions of grandeur
>>24528686Jesus was a jew himself and broke the rules by making a fuss about the moneylenders in the temple. He only has himself to blame
>>24528758I read a book about picasso, and in a period of his life where everything was falling apart he said something like ‘who cares, life is just a bad novel anyway,’ which i think is the actual middle ground between extremes (yeats once wrote ‘the best lack all conviction, while the worst / are full of passionate intensity’). kind of freeing and unexhausting without leaning too heavily into to self-pity.
my room got invaded by two roaches, i killed the first, but the second one was too quick, took me hours until i gave up, and i started reading a book and the little fucker just crawled on my bed like an idiot.

If some Z could combine X's coverage of [theme A] and Y's coverage of [theme B], that would be ideal. In that case, Y did a better job depicting theme A and depicting theme B. Why would you need some Z to combine the coverage of X's coverage of A and Y's coverage of B when X did a worse coverage of A and B?
>>24528922Yeah I fucked that up, I just meant to give an example of a relatively simple point someone might make about generic media, like something like "I liked Event Horizon's cosmic horror elements but when they amounted to slasher gore it was a letdown, because cosmic horror isn't just scary because the demon/monster might cut your eyes out, it's scary for different reasons" or "Fallout 3 was fun in its own way but it needlessly diluted or diverged from the lore/setting of earlier Fallouts." Statements where there is ample room for disagreement. What I don't understand is why the disagreement always takes a form like
>I had fun playing Fallout 3. Are you saying I didn't have fun? How do you know what I find fun, you fucking retard? You just hate Fallout 3. I'm just like, what? I said Fallout 3 was fun. Why the hostility, why the bitchiness, why the obsession with "owning?"
Even even your post is an example of what people DON'T do on other boards. You just asked the question, for clarification. No bitchiness.

Today, I decided to become a weeb and a furry because the average person makes light of them. Are you going to be an NPC? I'm not. Since this is the reading board I'll let you know that I'm scouring for material which a furry would read, it was quite easy to find something Japanese to read appealingly, but the idea of a furry book sounds appalling to me and fills me with a nauseated symptom.

About a year ago, I finished my first novel. My grandmother kept asking when I would finish it, and she is my number one reader. I wanted to finish it for her as I figured she didn't have much time left. She had a stroke a few weeks ago. The entire leff half of her body is innert and she is pretty much confined to her bed at her nursing home. I don't think she has much time left. I'm happy she got to read the book, at least. I couldn't do much to repair our family, but I hope that was enough to convey my love.

>>24528676 (OP)A recurrent pattern in my REM dreams is losing my orientation in a massive mall or sprawling urban place, then snapping out it by sheer will when I feel a bit dizzy. The weird thing about is how much I enjoy the environments during, and the music after waking. For some reason my memory for spontaneously conjured music is fragile, and evaporates in 30 minutes no matter what, but my visual memory persists so long that from, one yesterday, I can remember the weave and color set of a certain fabric, the look of cabinet woodgrains in a store department not to be found anywhere on the planet now, and from a decade previous, about 40 cars. and one high-rise hotel complex that, I suppose, affords a level of quiet and privacy that, even still, only exists in fantasy.
I know what I have to do to not write myself into a corner, but it's difficult. I still kind of have to write myself into a corner first.

>>24529505In another one from last night, I was in a huge research facility with the general look of a metropolitan hospital, and out of boredom I opened a heavy steel to a vaguely back door of it. There I saw a suavely paved path through a comfily nearby corn field to tne near left, a heavy green ridge running across my front, a lake to my right of about 10 acres, and just behind it, Arborvitae and cottonwoods topping out at about 600 feet, in a loose but towering stand. Fantastic, as much in the sense of fantasy as hyperbole.

Whenever other guys talk about sex, it's always about their physical pleasure. I mean sure, that's all nice and important, but am I the only one who thinks the best part is when the girl cums? To hear her moaning rise, peak, and fall, her legs and insides shake, her fingers grip your hair, her neck to shoot back, her eyes to look at you right before then right after because during she had to close them because it was too intense? I'm bummed out when I don't succeed in making her feel this way.
At least half of the soon to be transexuals would not become transexuals if 4chan was to shut down forever along with any potential replacement website
More than 80% of mass shooters would not become mass shooters if censorship on the internet targeted the extremist rhetoric that is commonly shared in here and adjacent groups.
No user of 4chan can counter these facts without giving insane arguments.
FINALLY finished The Master and Margarita last night. Holy shit. I thought I was gonna enjoy that a lot more but it was rather tedious. Albeit I first read it when I was 18 and I forgot most of it, so it was cool coming back to the book with what I know now as an adult, and am able to guess or tell when the book is making an allusion to Soviet daily life or the state, and stuff like that, compared to when I was 18 and was a lot more ignorant of the book's context. Now, on to 2001: A Space Odyssey!

>>24529964Mass shootings is stupid term because encompasses nig shootings as well. Most of the mass shootings happened in the hood and had nothing to do with 4chan, not only that but very few shootings occured by 4chan rethoric. Most of the school shooting were related to bullying
>>24529964i take it you must be in favour of banning gun ownership?
>>24530098Obviously, I'm not talking about gang members killing each other. Almost all perpetrators of mass shootings have had political manifestos in which they mention or reference internet subcultures, and most of the time they use common talking points from the extremist internet discourse to justify their actions.
>>24530099Why are you taking that? You shouldn't, I don't. Obviously gun ownership is more important than the continued existence of a child rape advocacy website.

The fact that most of these killers are familiar with the common discourses of this internet sphere is not a personal association of mine, but a reality that you can verify yourself by skimming through their manifestos.
I am yet to hear about the perks of this kind of "freedom of speech". I gave two reasons against the continued existence of this website, you addressed one, and i could give a dozen more.

and in our part of the world, we don’t believe liberty needs to justify itself by producing utility. if you think rights should be preserved even when bad people abuse them (as with guns), then you should apply that standard consistently, rather than defending one freedom by its best-case scenario (‘self-defense’) and attacking another by its worst-case outcomes. that isn’t a principled approach.

It's interesting that for all the disagreements and differences in moral systems in the world between societies and individuals, for all the people who are outright sociopaths and don't generally think and feel in ethical terms, there is in fact one universal impulse: the morality of favors. When someone does something for you, you do something in return.
Sure, you could boil it down to an evolutionary psychological and game theory perspective, where repaying favors is how you get people to continue doing favors for you, and survival throughout human history has always found the practice of favors, giving when you have excess and receiving when you're in need, to be of vital importance, often the difference between starving, getting killed, having no shelter, all sorts of negative outcomes, and surviving, living, ending the day with a full belly and a nice, safe place to sleep, even flourishing. And there's no doubt truth to that.
But where it becomes interesting is people feel the ethical impulse even when there ceases to be any appreciable tangible benefit. Say, someone helps get you a job. Fifteen years later, you're now above them on the social ladder, they no longer have anything you want or even lack the ability to achieve on your own. Yet, when they come to you for some kind of assistance, for a favor in return, to cash in their chit, there is no one who wouldn't feel compelled to grand them an audience to hear them out and, assuming the request isn't too much trouble of course, help out if you can.
The most sociopathic, selfish, only-out-for-themselves, amoral or hell even totally immoral person feels this ethical impulse. Even if they were to decline, they would feel the need to justify it. "I couldn't do it, it would cost me too much," sure, but not one confusion in the duty, no "but why should I do this? I already got what I wanted from you" if the original act was unmistakably in the context of a favor.
Just always found it interesting. The universal moral impulse of the favor.

I was in my house and it was like an extremely downcast day, very eerie. I have my two dogs but also for some reason, a small coyote and a white (badger?) got into the house.
Parents said it was not safe for them to be here so I asked my dad to help me get them out but he refused for some reason. Eventually I was trying to find a way to get them out and saw them somewhat playing with my dogs but knew they could turn any time so i was slightly worried.
My uncle then came in delivering something, and something just felt off.
As I was watching my dad on the recliner, my dad was walking up the stairs so there was two of them. I gloated and pointed at them since I knew why it felt so weird. I repeated it's a glitch hahaha because I caught this weird world in a mistake.
But then, I woke up in a hospital with my mother saying to wake me up from the MRI (meant coma) she had to create that world. I moved my arms and they felt really heavy with an iv attached to one, she said, "Wow, you're really out of it." (No shit) Then, I woke up in real life.

All you can offer is flawed circular logic. I predicted this.
I am not convinced the rest of the world has benefited at all from adopting the suicidal values of your part of the world, any outsider looking in is able to tell there is something deeply wrong within you and the new narratives you come up with, if the ever increasing pile of corpses of incels, chuds, trannies and their victims is not enough tell.

I believe cultures should derive utility from the principles they hold dear, that is my internal logic you have not addressed despite your claims to the contrary, even when the other post admits to understand as much. No, claiming that freedom of speech is an axiomatic principle that must simply be adhered to doesn't refute my claims, it only demonstrates that your pov rests on arbitrary and unjustified assumptions.

>an ideologically motivated spree killer is able to use means other than guns to harm peopleBut even then, my argument has not collapsed, you are pretending to apply it consistently when in reality you either don't understand it or are willfully misrepresenting it
I have said:
>I believe cultures should derive utility from the principles they hold dearThis implies a process in which the pros and cons of a "principle" are analyzed and contrasted, and the fact remains that placed into balance, the life of a potential victim that is saved through the usage of legally owned guns is worth more than any potential enjoyment i could derive from using 4chan, obviously. And even though firearms could be misused in a variety of ways, the propaganda that is spread here motivates people to misuse them in the first place, the underlying issue is that they want to kill people in accordance to the ideological imprinting they experienced in here, that or they want to mutilate their genitals, or that they want to kill themselves because they will never fuck or be a woman, or they fall into porn addiction, that or they congregate to come up with strategies for grooming minors. The ways in which a website as influential as this harms society are much more perverse and insidious.
Who wants to live in a society where that is possible? Free speech was not conceived to be this, and at any rate, what i am suggesting is not a ban on free speech, but mere restrictions that make all these processes not impossible but much less likely.
>>24531817>free speech is LE BAD because people LE DIEdo you think you'll live forever or something?
and how are you going to control speech without killing people anyway? you're a little bitch

>>24532283>spree killer is able to use means other than gunswe can look at statistics (actual statistics, not like your made up 80% and 50%) of mass killings, and see whether the US is firmly in the lead by a wide margin ... but i don't think we have to.
i’ve took your exact reasoning and applied it to guns - if that's misrepresenting you, great: explain how.
the founding fathers were not naive. they knew perfectly well that speech could be ugly. free speech was established to protect that kind of expression, because the alternative was letting authorities silence dissent under the guise of public decency or social harmony. so yes - this is exactly what it was conceived to be. some say the 2nd amend. wasn’t written with AR-15s in mind. maybe not. but we don’t dismantle foundational rights just because modern realities make people uneasy.
>but mere restrictionsthat’s not 'restrictions within free speech' - it's a rejection of free speech in practice.
& history is clear on what 'mere restrictions' become once the precedent is set.
A number of modern pygmies from literary criticism dare to claim that The Master and Margarita is a weak and even vulgar book. This book is a work of genius. But even if it were graphomania, it would still be a great human document. Because the author wrote his text on the threshold of death, and the main theme of The Master and Margarita is precisely the boundary between life and death.
Why do people manage to kill themselves by hanging? After all, a person who is hanging has free hands, and the unbearable pain should force them to grab the noose and loosen it. But this never happens. Even if someone wants to scare others and deliberately ties a tight knot, the rope immediately compresses the arteries and nerves, and the hands hang limp like whips. This is the first thing that happens to a hanged person. There is no salvation from the noose.
When a person knows they will soon die, they usually only have enough strength to write a will. All their affairs, passions, and obligations turn into nothing. Their eyes are clouded by the horror of death. Their will is paralyzed.
>>24532419Bulgakov, in THIS state, stubbornly worked on his novel. The famous tragicomic scene where the barman Sokov visits a professor of medicine in an attempt to cure the cancer predicted by Woland was written two months before Bulgakov’s death and after he himself received a fatal diagnosis.
The Master and Margarita is a message to the reader. Just like The Death of Ivan Ilyich. At the beginning of Tolstoy’s novella, there is a scene depicting the onset of illness. When the doctor begins to talk to Ivan Ilyich about his health, about the functioning of his kidneys, stomach, liver, intestines, and speaks for a long, long time, Ivan Ilyich gradually realizes that the conversation is not about his liver or intestines but about life and death. HIS life and death. And here, the author gives the reader the opportunity to take the next step themselves. To understand that this is not a story about the death of a mid-level Russian official living in the second third of the 19th century, but a story about the death of a human being as such. That is, about the reader themselves.

My stomach twists. "B-but, I really do love you." He pauses, eyes flicking to the side like he's deciding whether to laugh or look away. Instead, he just sighs. “…Doesn’t mean I didn’t like being around you,” he says, quieter now. I look at him. “So what, you’re just going to leave and forget all of this happened?” He shrugs. “It’s easier that way. Keeps things clean.” “Clean?” I shake my head. “This wasn’t clean for me. You were the first person I let in. You made me feel like maybe I wasn’t just some guy sitting alone every night.” He looks away, jaw tight. “You weren’t.” “Then what was I?” He doesn’t answer for a while. Then, without looking at me, he says, “You were someone I didn’t expect to care about.” I go still. “But you did.” He nods, just once. “Then why not stay?” I ask. He sighs. “Because I know how this ends. I’ve seen it before. I get close, things blur, someone always gets hurt. Usually both of us.” “I’d rather hurt from something real than feel nothing at all.” He finally turns back to me. “You really mean that?” I nod. “Every word.” He stares for a moment. Then he sits down beside me, slowly, like he’s not sure if it’s a mistake. “I can’t promise anything,” he says. “I’m not asking for promises. Just don’t lie.” He nods again, softer this time. “Alright.” We sit there in silence. Not clean. Not clear. But real.

>I believe cultures should derive utility from the principles they hold dear>This implies a process in which the pros and cons of a "principle" are analyzed and contrastedI don't particularly care about what the founding fathers thought, even if they envisioned a future in which children could be convinced to cut themselves for the pleasure of creeps on something like the internet where these behaviors could be seen and imitated by millions of people and decided that it was a sacrifice they were willing to make for the sake of somehow protecting dissent, even thought it entails a completely different category of speech that is easily distinguishable from others, the fact remains your kind of free speech doesn't make the cut when analyzed from an utilitarian perspective.

if ‘nothing good comes out of it’ is your bar, then forums, books, music may be summarily banned. people say the same about entire religions. should those go too?
though the struggle with forces of dogma has been long and hard, the open society has so far prevailed; there is no reason, in principle, why it should not do so in the future if the lessons have been truly learned, and when learned, not forgotten.
