what am i missing? what is the secret formula for a self publishing author to actually sell on amazon in 2025 thats relevant, working, and isnt illegal?

im not going to dox my books but just genuinely curious if anyone has had any luck with amazon self publishing. im lucky if i make even $150 in royalties a month atp.

I just submit to journals and hope it will eventually get me a novel deal. If I wanted to be in marketing I would get a degree but I don't want to be in marketing, I want to write. It is nice knowing that everytime I get accepted to a journal I know people will read my story, I am not just screaming into a void in the hopes someone will hear me.
