What do I do if I'm too ADHD to even finish <100 page books? I've had a copy of the Old Man and the Sea sitting here for weeks

read short stories. pick something you want to read instead of forcing yourself to read things that you should be reading.

I am tired of giving the same response to retards that are unwilling to accept common sense.

You're overstimulated on dopamine. Take 10 to 15 mins to sit still and do nothing then try reading.

So are you saying that OP wanted to read the book in the first instance, but then when reading it he stopped wanting to read the book? Well, OP is implying he wants to read it in the present but can't.
I'm objecting this btw:

Start with something small and centered on a genre you have interest in with other media.
Scifi? Neuromancer or Dune, I guess. I don't read much science fiction.
Horror? Lovecraft or Clive Barker, maybe a King if you're feeling frisky and have the time to sort through the books that aren't really worth reading.
Fantasy? Conan or Tolkien, fuck it, throw Percy Jackson in there.
Point is you've gotta build your focus up like any other skill. Set like, 30 minutes aside a day to turn all your screens off and read and work from there. Reduce the time if it helps.

i am trying to get a perscription for modafinil and its pissing me off because its hard. Why are there online clinics that make it super easy to get shit like TRT or Ozempic but the best way to get modafinil is to beg a local doctor to give it to you like a pussy

You take frequent breaks and read during downtime. Read on the toilet and smear shit all over the pages, read while waiting for the coffee to brew, read during your breaks at work (if you have a job), listen to an audio book instead while working out. Idk get creative.

The Old Man and the Sea is not bad but I would never want to read it again. Just find something that you find interesting.

Just try anything until it works. You just need the habit, I assume you already have the interest.
Medication would be a good first try.

I was diagnosed with ADHD as well and I read at least 20 pages every day. The reason you can’t read isn’t because of ADHD, it’s because you can’t manage your time properly, you’re addicted to the rush that browsing the internet gives. Work on your addiction.

Why do people online make it look like ADHD is some sort of anxiety disorder? You can't get around to doing something because having to make up your mind about things makes you anxious? Where do the attention deficit and hyperactivity come into play?

Just put your phone and computer out of reach, set a timer at least once a day and read until it goes off (set it a little longer than the upper limit of your current attention span), and gradually increase the amount of time you set it for. It's been working for me, now I can often read for an hour at a time depending on the book.

if I set a timer I will just look at it every 30 seconds instead of reading
and how out of reach is out of reach?
if I leave my phone on the desk or in the other room what is stopping me from getting up and picking it up? I should make it so that picking up my phone would be more bothersome than just focusing and continuing with my reading
