This. Both are difficult (Blood Meridian can be a challenging read, Dark Souls is a challenging game), but they're also easier than most people think, once you get into them, and their respective mediums have much harder pieces. They're both critically acclaimed modern masterpieces (even if they aren't as modern anymore), they're both very dark and esoteric, they're both popular among zoomers who think they're smart and cool when in reality they're just edgelords, etc.

I have never read Blood Meridian. I do plan on reading it in the near future, but right now, no. I have read No Country For Old Men, and I thought that it was fine, but I did get confused by his style of writing sometimes, and I heard that Blood Meridian is written in the same style.

Unironically between two fires, its exactly what I imagined an elden ring / dark souls novel to be like. Highly recommend it! an altar on the village green and black dog by KV might also be what you're looking for.
