mere christianity
I am reading the chapter on "the three-personal god" and would like some recommendations of similarly straight forward and simple worded books that deal with christian theology or metaphysics.

That's going to be difficult because it's an extremely different paradigm from modern secular materialism, even though the other grows out of a particular sort of Protestant theology and volanturism and nominalism.

Pic related is fairly accessible though. It starts with Parmenides, then does Plato, then Aristotle, then Plotinus, then finally a Christian in Aquinas, but the background is quite relevant.

It might be easier to focus on a particular area though, and this is good.

>>24533445 (OP) This is an actual low-down of Church teaching which comes downstream of an immense theological tradition. It won't mislead you,--will provoke contemplation and understanding. Shows right teaching played against the various heresies of the ages, and also touches Church teaching as it confronts today's culture.

Lewis was not an atheist at all. Was high-church Anglican.

I recently just finished reading that myself. I’d say β€œcounting the cost” and some of the chapter before and after that is the best and most important aspect of the book. As it clearly explains a lot of why Christianity is so appealing and what the nature of gods relationship with man is.

I’d suggest you also read the soul of Christianity by Huston smith, which I’ve also heard is good.

>Lewis was not an atheist at all. Was high-church Anglican.
Not that anon, but if he believed their doctrines, then he wasn't even saved, since they teach works for salvation and anyone who is trusting in works, even just getting baptised, isn't saved. It's nothing but the blood of Jesus that cleanses us, not water baptism. I can't be bothered to look up their teaching from around his time, but today the Anglican/Episcopalian church teaches lies.
>Baptism is for the forgiveness of our sins, the giving of the Holy Spirit, and initiation into the Church.
The Bible clearly says it's believing in Christ for the forgiveness of sins.
>Acts 10:43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

If you baptise someone who isn't saved, who hasn't believe the gospel and put all their faith and trust in Christ to be saved (not trusting their own works or their baptism), then you just get a wet bastard (Hebrews 12:8).
>John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
It's by believing on the name of Christ or putting all your trust in Christ to be saved, not trusting some cold water to save you.

I think only Christ is able to know that. How are we not all just larping at this point? I don't get inauthentic belief from Lewis.
