Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison

I know this is a thinly veiled /pol/ thread, but The Narrative Life of Frederick Douglass can be read cover to cover in an hour and it's a fantastic read. A first hand account of being a slave in the US by a very eloquent negro. People were genuinely shocked that a black person could write and orate like a white person.

I have come to think that the guy who makes these threads is either some racist troll who doesn't care about 'black literature' or a saboteur who uses the thread to perpetuate racist stereotypes. There's usually zero discussion about the books posted--which are parodies of serious racial narratives--not even excerpts are dropped within as is the case with many of the rest of the threads on this board. It's a place reserved for people who are feeling sorry for themselves.

Pimp by iceberg slim is pretty good. An interesting look into a whole other subculture, complete with its own terminology etc. I'm currently reading Invisible Man by Ellison and it's pretty good as well, IIRC he got some flack from other black writers for not being overtly political.
