>Philosophy before Socrates
>Questions and theories on how the universe was created, the nature of God, how and why our bodies function the way they do, what causes weather change etc.
>After Socrates
>Uhmmmm you have a source for that? How can you be sure water is wet, huh? If you touch the water it's your hand that is wet, not the water. Me? Heh, I know I don't know anything *smugle chuckle*

Nietzsche was too kind on Socrates.

I susect the reason they killed him was that he was so annoying and I'm on their side. Plato goes on and on about how wonderful he is but he never seems anything but sophistical to me in the dialogues.

The one biographical snippet that inclines me in his favour was that he was apparently a good and brave soldier. So he must have had a bit more about him than the average modern smart-aleck.

My exact feelings about Galileo. The inhuman amount of propaganda that has been peddled to obscure how incredibly fair the world was to Galileo is ridiculous.

Were the Sophists trying to enslave all free men in Athens and install a homosexual Apollonian cult Tyranny? No, no they weren't.

So obviously the sophists were bad guys.

>if philosophers only do philosophers stuff... le bad
nobody cares about the pre socratics unless they they are part of plato's headcanon. if nietzsche shitted on socratres for only doing philosophy then what about him shitting on aristotle who also did a bunch of science experiment and basically wrote about everything?

The presocratics were lost because they fucking sucked. There was no conspiracy to get rid of their works, they were just obviously, grossly inferior to Plato and Aristotle, “Muh quasi-profound poetry and enigmatic fragments” fuck you. It’s all “everything is mind bro” “it’s all one bro” “my life is a punishment from the gods whoahh deep tortured soul” “everything is changing lol”. They’re basically shitposts.

the steeds that bear me carried me as far as ever my heart
Desired, since they brought me and set me on the renowned
Way of the goddess, who with her own hands conducts the man
who knows through all things. On what way was I borne

5 along; for on it did the wise steeds carry me, drawing my car,
and maidens showed the way. And the axle, glowing in the socket -
for it was urged round by the whirling wheels at eax
end - gave forth a sound as of a pipe, when the daughters of the
Sun, hasting to convey me into the light, threw back their veils
10 from off their faces and left the abode of Night.

Hylics get the rope.

That's just a result of SCIENCE GOOD CHURCH BAD. The current zeitgeist likes to think of the Inquisition sneaking round like Monty Python, jumping out on all and sundry and dragging them off to the torture chamber.

If people want a martyr for nonconformist thought then Bruno is a more reasonable figure. But he wasn't as important a scientist of course.

His affiliation with Critias was what made him suspect, nobody cared about his tutelage of Alcibiades at that time.
