First few arcs were good (especially Water 7) but it fell off hard. Oda seems to be more interested in giant setpiece fights and introducing new characters than actually developing the characters we already have.

Went to shit after the time skip. The pacing was dragged down to a painful slog so bad that it was insulting to ask anyone to care about the series anymore. It became low effort slop.

I have no tolerance for stories that drag things out and are poorly paced. Especially when it's never ending nonsense in a serialized format. Ever on-going series can work when it's episodic but endless never ending serialized bullshit can go die in a fire.

Also I think the vast majority of the charcter designs are fucking stupid and the overall story telling is lame.

I’m well aware of that, but it’s really no surprise. It’s the same with most pop culture stuff.
What does bug me is people who read it (and manga/comic books in general) tend to think of it as high art.

I watched it all in covid.
It's shonen slop but it has it's interesting references to culture and /lit/. Usually every island tries to mimic either real countrie's culture (For example, Arabasta being an arabic country, or Dressrosa being Spain) or some kind of cinematic or literary genre (For example, Whole cake is full of references to Alice in wonderland, Wano is full of references to Kurosawa).
One thing that I'm proud of understanding due to /lit/ is the name of Usopp.
Usopp is a character who is always creating stories and he is introducing by pranking his town telling them that pirates are coming, and when the pirates actually come nobody beliefs him. He also has a long nose lile Pinocchio when lying.
Usopp's name is formed by the words Uso (Lie in japanese) and Aesop (Which means "stories creator in greek, but it is also the name of the fables writer who wrote the story of the kid who pranked his town telling them about a wolf in tje forest, but when the real wolf appeared nobody believed him).
Franky is Frankenstein. Don Quixote is obvious, but there is actually one more Don Quixote character in Skypiea. Nami might be Izanami. There are lot more but I haven't watched it in like 5 years.

The only shonen worth anything is Jojo's because it's self aware of being a shonen and doesn't take itself seriously.
>main villain of the series can stop time
>"Hmmm, wouldn't this fight be even more fun to watch if the protagonist could also stop time? Fuck it. He can also stop time now."

one piece fan here. do not get into it. its not worth the 1,100+ chapters and then having to consume dozens of hours of lore and theory videos in order to understand what's actually going on. the story also gets worse over time like almost all long running manga.

honestly just don't consume manga or anime in general unless its something really good like a miyazaki film or legend of galactic heros.

It was good when it was still about Pirates, it sucked once it became about fighting the shadow government. So up until Dressrossa.

>>24558769
Berserk was good until the Tower of conviction arc. After that it just became a generic dark-fantasy manga with poor character development.

Single greatest work of the 21st century. The subtle undertones of marines being the good guys but forced to do sinister things mirrors the pirates being lawless people that just want to be free. That you must join the one world government but there are places that can hold out due to their own strength is a testament to the human need for struggle. Finally the dragons and the (occupied) empty throne. The face of the elites and the shadow masters behind them treating them as if they are untouchable.
It will be seen as a revolutionary work one day.

best currently ongoing work of literature on the planet. pure kino. the story does drag some after the timeskip but it's still good. it's been picking up again since wano ended though and there have been payoffs to things set up 25 years ago which is fun. i will say it's a great time to start reading it because it is going to end in 5 years or so to much global fanfare, so you have a good window to read it at a leisurely pace. (the anime is good if you want to watch it but the manga is better, faster to read, has zero filler). i love one piece :)

I can't wait for one piece to end and for everyone to get disappointed by what the "one piece" actually is then everyone is going to 180 on the series and discount the entire series because of it. Maybe then people will stop overrating this overly-long children's tv show.

You see, that's the thing. Comics had arcs that come to a hard close and have a bunch of different writers pick up properties and give their spin on them....But manga never fucking dies, and just keeps going, and going, and going, and keeps inventing more excuses to keep itself going, until it has spun so totally out of comprehension from its original intention, it is basically an entirely different story now.

Meanwhile, Batman is still fighting killer croc.

Comics may be lesser than literature, but they sure as shit stand above mangaslop. Still not a single volume published that's better than aama by Frederik Peeters, and its still not even as good as some of the capeslop that's been published over the years.
