>>24563633 (OP)The mind is an organ, no different from the heart and the lungs and the muscles and eyes.
The body is a cohesive whole. Just as neglecting dental health causes terrible ailments elswhere in the body, neglecting the body causes the mind to deteriorate.
We are humans, capable of reason, but we are also animals, bound in our physical body. To neglect that body is foolishness and stupidity.
It is only when we are at our physical peak that our mind too is capable of reaching its physical peak.
If you do not exercise but instead languish in dark corners all your life, your mind will become sluggish and unfocussed.
Furthermore, as social animals, we are hardwired to compete and pursue social status. Sports provides an outlet for this irrepressible desire. By engaging in sports and fitness, our body and even the animalistic parts of our mind become convinced that we are doing our proper duties as animals, and as such are rewarded with the peace of mind known as happiness and fullfillment.
But if we do not engage in sports but instead hide away from the world and other human beings, we will become miserable, depressed. And this is a toxin to any hope of pursuing intellectual work for intellectual work requires vigour, and one who is depressed will have no vigour.
To think you are not bound by your animal nature is to have delusions of grandeur. You are an animal, and you must appease its demands, or it will torment you.
