Life would be so much easier as a narcissist. Instead I let my anxiety and inhibitions over all of my decisions, past and present, dictate my life and feelings. A not insignificant amount of my daily time and mental energy is used on stressing over remembrance of things past where I did something stupid, embarrassing, or some kind of failure in public, no matter how minor and trivial.

I was really fortunate this year and ended up working with some really good people. As I have almost no social life, I ended up paying a lot more attention to the way they interacted with me and others than someone more normal might have. These people are selfless and think of others all the time. They're warm and almost familial with people but never in an annoying or awkward way.
Working with and being around these people has led me to reflect on myself and my life. In comparison with them, I'm selfish, even self-centered. Where they are warm, I am cold. They give to others, but it seems I only ever take. I feel like a kid around them, someone who never really grew up and is trying to act like an adult without understanding what that means. I fear that I'll never really grow and go through my life as this selfish, cold, stunted person who can't become anyone better or even understand what that would mean. In fact I've found myself avoiding them at times, knowing the way they will be kind and selfless towards me with no expectation of anything in return, and feeling deeply undeserving of being involved in the lives of such people.
