>"Learning a language" (other than english)
>Spending 3+ years of your life and energy for something native speakers do with no effort
>Doesn't matter because every book is translated and computer translation works for conversation
>Could've learned something cooler, more useful, that'll make you money instead
>But you chose to "speak a language" like every native speaker can, meaning no one gives a fuck
Wha- Wha??

Like a new anime to watch? You monkeys are so tiresome. Anyway learning a new language is piss easy these days. You’re just lazy.

Learning Russian unfortunately made me racist toward Russian people. I pretty much exclusively read 19th century Russian literature because I just don't like how they are now lmao. I also intentionally mispronounce the language when I read poems because I do not like how much they emphasize syllables when they read poetry.

I was a bit of a russiaboo back when I didn't know much about them. This was in 2014 and I was a bit edgy about politics then and thought Russia was "based" and so on. I just thought they were cool idk, I was a dumb teenager.

It has been worth it purely for being able to access Pushkin and Lermontovs poetry in any case. Pushkin is so insanely good in Russian it's honestly hard to even describe. It's straight up Shakespeare tier, I actually like it better.

Every book most definitely is not translated, and there's a difference between talking to someone directly and through an interpreter, whether that interpreter be human or digital. (Also it's hard to even meaningfully translate poetry.)

There is a very big scene of mystery in japanese literature. Only one (Dogra Magra) from the three novels with most influence has been translated into english, and it only did 2 or 3 years ago.
Google "The Three great mysteries".

When we talk about the "mystery" genre in literature we usually think of detectivesque books, like Sherlock Holmes, Hercules Poirot, or Father Brown, where usually a crime happens and the detective needs to solve the mystery of why, how, and who did it.
Japanese "mystery" is kind of different, because the mystery is not like that at all, but rather that the plot itself is mysterious and the characters or even yourself need to solve it.
Anti-mystery is the subvertion of the genre, breaking its main core elements.
To put an example: in the middle ages there were a lot of chivalry books where knights were romanticized. Don Quixote would be an anti-chilvalry novel, because it breaks the main conventions for a chivalry novel. Yes, the protagonist is a knight, yet he is actually only a knight inside his mind, and in reality he is a delusional old man convincing people he is one until the truth is shown. It works as a knight book because after all he ends up having knightly adventures, even if they are only inside his mind, but it subverts the genre.

Hasn't machine translation and now AI driven down demand for it? Even if someone isn't willing to publish an AI translation, it seems like often they'll just give it to a human to proofread rather than have a human translate from scratch.

Learning a language is a great investment in your multicultural experience as well as in your job prospects.

You might've been unemployed for a long time, otherwise you would've seen that knowing a foreign language is a huge advantage for competitors. Not to mention how much boost it gives to your brain capacities.

I work in the foreign relations ministry...
Ever thought maybe your line of work wouldn't benefit from an extra language but others might? What if an engineer wants to work in Germany for better job opportunities? What if a lawyer has to work with people who don't speak english so well?
There's not a single loss from learning a foreign language unless it's some obscure barely spoken shit like albanian or whatever. It literally only opens up more opportunities for you. It's not like you'd spend that time in a better way by using 4chan anyway dumbass

Obviously, but the best opportunities are in English-speaking countries. What you said is very situational. I'm saying it as someone who doesn't benefit professionally in learning another language.
