How do you feel about the theory that Maegor Brightflame was the father of fAegon rather than Illyrio? It would ironically make fAegon both the Blackfyre pretender and a legitimate Targ claimant to the throne. Would technically make him the rightful heir to the throne if you don't acknowledge Daenerys' claim on account of her being a woman. Depends on if Maegor Brightflame being put aside for Aegon V also delegitimizes him. I personally like the idea that he could be seen as both a pretender and a legitimate Targ from a writing perspective, if GRRM wants the ending of the series to sort of blur the lines of the prophecies that have defined a lot of characters motivations then I think that would be the play.

>Bastard, was the only word written outside the scroll. No Lord Snow or Jon Snow or Lord Commander. Simply Bastard. And the letter was sealed with a smear of hard pink wax.
>"You were right to come at once," Jon said. You were right to be afraid. He cracked the seal, flattened the parchment, and read.
>Your false king is dead, bastard. He and all his host were smashed in seven days of battle. I have his magic sword. Tell his red whore.
>Your false king's friends are dead. Their heads upon the walls of Winterfell. Come see them, bastard. Your false king lied, and so did you. You told the world you burned the King-Beyond-the-Wall. Instead you sent him to Winterfell to steal my bride from me.
>I will have my bride back. If you want Mance Rayder back, come and get him. I have him in a cage for all the north to see, proof of your lies. The cage is cold, but I have made him a warm cloak from the skins of the six whores who came with him to Winterfell.
>I want my bride back. I want the false king's queen. I want his daughter and his red witch. I want his wildling princess. I want his little prince, the wildling babe. And I want my Reek. Send them to me, bastard, and I will not trouble you or your black crows. Keep them from me, and I will cut out your bastard's heart and eat it.
>It was signed, Ramsay Bolton,Trueborn Lord of Winterfell.
>"Snow?" said Tormund Giantsbane. "You look like your father's bloody head just rolled out o' that paper."
>Jon Snow did not answer at once. "Mully, help Clydas back to his chambers. The night is dark, and the paths will be slippery with snow. Satin, go with them." He handed Tormund Giantsbane the letter. "Here, see for yourself."
>The wildling gave the letter a dubious look and handed it right back. "Feels nasty … but Tormund Thunderfist had better things to do than learn to make papers talk at him. They never have any good to say, now do they?"
>"Not often," Jon Snow admitted. Dark wings, dark words. Perhaps there was more truth to those wise old sayings than he'd known. "It was sent by Ramsay Snow. I'll read you what he wrote."
>When he was done, Tormund whistled. "Har. That's buggered, and no mistake. What was that about Mance? Has him in a cage, does he? How, when hundreds saw your red witch burn the man?"
>That was Rattleshirt, Jon almost said. That was sorcery. A glamor, she called it. "Melisandre … look to the skies, she said." He set the letter down. "A raven in a storm. She saw this coming." When you have your answers, send to me.
>"Might be all a skin o' lies." Tormund scratched under his beard. "If I had me a nice goose quill and a pot o' maester's ink, I could write down that me member was long and thick as me arm, wouldn't make it so."
>"He has Lightbringer. He talks of heads upon the walls of Winterfell. He knows about the spearwives and their number." He knows about Mance Rayder. "No. There is truth in there."
>"I won't say you're wrong. What do you mean to do, crow?"

I've said that myself before but I don't think there's any actual textual evidence to support it. I'm pretty sure Maegor is never even mentioned in the main series so the chance of him mattering to the narrative is effectively 0. Though, "there was a secret female line Blackfyre family that Varys and Illyrio's wife are both descended from" is also a massive fucking reach and most people accept it as gospel, so who knows
Either way I think Young Griff will end up either being the real Aegon, or a literal nobody, or it will never be revealed. Blackfyre fAegon is nowhere near as solid a theory as most people pretend it is

>umm actually Superman is an illegal immigrant, so checkmate
These useful idiots always miss the point that illegal immigration is only such a prominent and contentious issue because it’s happening at a scale where it’s indistinguishable from a veritable invasion, which is changing the cultural and ethnic makeup of entire countries.
Zod from Man of Steel is a much more appropriate metaphor for illegal immigration - he wants to completely erase the native human species and its society altogether, to make room for all his kryptonian settlers. Meanwhile, there’s only one of Superman, and he assimilated to human customs. Does GRRM really think people would be up in arms if there was only one illegal immigrant crossing over to the US, or Italy, everywhere?
This man has written one of the best fantasy series ever, and deserves his laurels, but it’s so clear he’s a naive, idealist boomer in every other regard.

I think the lack of textual evidence doesn't really invalidate the theory because there isn't a character that can be tied to fAegon that makes thematic sense. Maybe Lemore is Ashara (don't like that theory) and fAegon is her and either Ned or Brandon's son. But to be clear, I don't buy that. I don't like the Ashara is alive theories in general because they feel cheap.

I think it mostly came into being because people were incredulous that GRRM could spill so much ink writing about the Blackfyres (especially through the D&E novels) without it coming back into the mainline story somehow. Admittedly, if you look at the publication order, it’s interesting how “The Mystery Knight” (all about a secret Blackfyre pretender) was written right before Dance and FAegon’s introduction.

>I mean how else do you explain the Golden Company's actions?
I’m not sure if you can really say this is implied by the books, so call it headcanon if you want, but it seems like the Golden Companion barely has anything still tying them to the Blackfyre cause. It’s been half a century since the death of the last serious pretender, Maelys. They are still a few of the original Blackfyre loyalist houses mucking around (the Peakes, the Stricklands, the Toynes), but by and large, they are outnumbered by: (1) non-Westerosi with presumably little interest in the Blackfyre cause (Black Balaq, Lysono Mar, etc), (2) Targaryen loyalists fled after Robert’s Rebellion (Jon Connington), or (3) simply recent exiles from Westeros (Rolly Duckfield).
I highly doubt the few Blackfyre loyalists in the Company can still invoke the Blackfyre cause to sway which contracts the Company makes.
Not to mention… the Golden Company broke their contract for Dany, not FAegon.

the mainline Blackfyres have been dead since Barristan Selmy was a squire and many of the current soldiers in the Golden Company are Targaryen loyalists who fled from Robert, generic exiles who have no real political vision, or not even Westerosi in the first place. It's pretty plausible that most of the Westerosi exiles just want to Go Home and don't give a fuck whose banner they're doing it under.
Also Illyrio's original plan was for them to help Daenerys anyway

I feel like the same could be said about Three-Eyed Crow = Bloodraven (if it was still a theory and hadn’t been confirmed in the books yet). When I first read ASoS, I had no idea who Bloodraven was supposed to be. It comes out of nowhere, unless you’d read these spin-off novellas that most of the fandom never even reads.

I think Varys genuinely believes in whatever his plan is. If he just wanted power, he already had it under Aerys and Robert, and Robert's "son's" before he helped Tyrion escape. I don't know if he's telling the truth about what his plan is, but he's cooking up something that he believes in 110%, and it isn't just an arbitrary power grab

This. According to Conleth Hill, when he started on the show he was told by GRRM something along the lines of his character being "deep down, a good person" (maybe not those exact words, but that's how Hill said it). To me, that means that Varys has a reason for what he does that he believes morally justifies his means. Similar to how Melisandre actually thinks she's saving the world.

I mean if he is a Blackfyre the "good person" bit may very well mean he would have otherwise been a good person but has been driven to vengeance due to the circumstances of his birth (ala Arya). My fanfic headcannon of Varys is that he had a hand in the rebellion but what he really wanted was a kind of circular succession between the nine paramount houses. Rather than just being a Blackfyre on the path of vengeance, he'd be wary of both the Targs and Blackfyre, seeing their conflict as foolish. It would be the only way to end the series without a lot more conflict over the throne after the War for the Dawn imo.

the worst thing about GRRM books and discussion is the intentional portrayal of "good and bad". He himself has said in interviews that he writes chars to do "bad" to create story interactions and events, but i dont think human behavior is rooted in "Good and bad" as vague ideas. He does build from motivation, but then labels it, and the readers do, with a moral value, but if thats how the behavior is formulated then whats the point of the description as such.

it's funny because there feminist attempts to paint Rhaenyra and Alicent in better lights just make them incompetent and indecisive retards rather than make them into the feminist icons they want.
All this out of a fucking story where the moral is "Feudalism is bad" and they forget the part where the royal women need to show that too but do it in a different way by accident.

i think it makes more sense for Bran to be a sorta man behind the curtain sorta thing if bran being king actually does turn out to be true. I read some theory somewhere of Bran ruling from Harrenhal from some sorta weirwood throne, like bloodraven. A new capital would make sense since it seems like its inevitable that kingslanding is going to be blown the fuck up. I can see there being two kings, one an actual king on the throne and then Bran being the spiritual king connected through the trees.

>"Captains and kings, lift your cups to the Lords of the Four Shields!" Victarion drank with the rest. There is no wine so sweet as wine taken from a foe. Someone had told him that once. His father, or his brother Balon. One day I shall drink your wine, Crow's Eye, and take from you all that you hold dear. But was there anything Euron held dear?
>"On the morrow we prepare once more to sail," the king was saying. "Fill our casks anew with spring water, take every sack of grain and cask of beef, and as many sheep and goats as we can carry. The wounded who are still hale enough to pull an oar will row. The rest shall remain here, to help hold these isles for their new lords. Torwold and the Red Oarsman will soon be back with more provisions. Our decks will stink of pigs and chickens on the voyage east, but we'll return with dragons."
>"When?" The voice was Lord Rodrik's. "When shall we return, Your Grace? A year? Three years? Five? Your dragons are a world away, and autumn is upon us." The Reader walked forward, sounding all the hazards. "Galleys guard the Redwyne Straits. The Dornish coast is dry and bleak, four hundred leagues of whirlpools, cliffs, and hidden shoals with hardly a safe landing anywhere. Beyond wait the Stepstones, with their storms and their nests of Lysene and Myrish pirates. If a thousand ships set sail, three hundred may reach the far side of the narrow sea . . . and then what? Lys will not welcome us, nor will Volantis. Where will you find fresh water, food? The first storm will scatter us across half the earth."
>A smile played across Euron's blue lips. "I am the storm, my lord. The first storm, and the last. I have taken the Silence on longer voyages than this, and ones far more hazardous. Have you forgotten? I have sailed the Smoking Sea and seen Valyria."
>Every man there knew that the Doom still ruled Valyria. The very sea there boiled and smoked, and the land was overrun with demons. It was said that any sailor who so much as glimpsed the fiery mountains of Valyria rising above the waves would soon die a dreadful death, yet the Crow's Eye had been there, and returned.
>"Have you?" the Reader asked, so softly.
>Euron's blue smile vanished. "Reader," he said into the quiet, "you would do well to keep your nose in your books."

Megger is a clear reference to Emperor Nero with the whole 666 thing and Nero, we now know, was a pretty decent Emperor posthumously slandered by Christians.

westeros is the british isles with ireland flipped under england and cornwall cut off and stuck to the bottom (which is the top of ireland).
cornish and welsh are like english and scots or like danish and swedish, in terms of relation
so dorme is cornwall

D&D made him more sympathetic because they actually liked him in the books and called him "lawful neutral".
They also thought Renly would make a good king despite every halfway intelligent character who wasn't in love with him thinking otherwise (Cressen, Stannis, Catelyn, Olenna, Tyrion, Jaime), so they obviously had some issues with reading comprehension.

yes. he will become Goldenhand; defeating the Dothrakai invasion, the usurper fake Aegon and the pesky invasion of the children of the forest and their new seer king.
he will then assume the Iron Throne by the unanimous vote of the high lords.
Stannis would sadly die stopping the white walkers.
Jaime will marry Shireen to legitimize his rule.
he will also marry Val to incorporate the wildlings into the realm.
