Plato developed the concept of the Academy. Philosophers of Athens used to be guys just talking about ideas. Aristotle developed specialization, but Plato created the ivory tower.

The fact is, Plato is functionally retarded. His arguments suck, he's a great way to get your feet wet in philosophy, but nobody takes him seriously as a philosopher. His own immediate students rejected all his core teachings because they rely on grossly sophistical arguments, like the one over many. But now watch Theodorus is going to claim that nobody understands the dialogues but him. I can imagine your red copy of the Complete Works, the pages stained with food-grime.
