Read the post-Hegelians (and thus the recapitulation of the post-Hegelians in the post-structuralists), you're going to find that epistemology is impossible and there are no "gains" only constant play. Kierkegaard, Schopenhauer, Marx, Irigaray, Kristeva, Zizek, Deleuze & Guattari, Baudrillard, Deleuze, Foucault, Feyerabend, Sub-commandante Marcos, CLR James, EP Thompson, Johnson-Forest tendency, Autonomia (PO, AO, LC, Blisset, and the named writers), Cleaver.

There is no meaning, there are no gains, there is only lifting for the pure pleasure of lifting. What does it gaineth a man to unpossess the entire world when he demonstrably cannot prove whether he hath no immortal soul?
