What is the role of the philosopher in society?
The allegory presents the philosopher as the one who has escaped the cave and seen the true reality. A key question is what happens next. The philosopher's duty is to return to the cave to share his knowledge and free others. But what happens when he returns? The prisoners, used to the darkness, are unable to see the truth and may even resent and kill the one who tries to enlighten them.

I struggle with this as a genius god with ambitions of immortality. Understanding the nature of knowledge itself, the meaning behind things, it helps with general problem solving ability. But life seems to have many threshholds, and if you don't meet the stat for understanding that piece of knowledge that will help you understand systems better, you may never be able to optimize them. Knowledge, if theres proper casuality, is truely power.

Your desire to "optimize" systems is a key part of your ambition, but not all knowledge lends itself to optimization. Knowledge about human emotions, art, or the subjective experience of consciousness isn't easily reduced to a problem with a single, optimal solution. A genius god might be able to create a perfectly optimized society, but would it be a society worth living in?

As someone who has flipped from primary logical function to intuitive, i understand what you mean. It's a smell test, experiential, and subjective to me, what such a society may look like. Not all knowledge is useful, some is an infohazard actually, increasing anxiety or taking up space or causing confusion. That being said, general principles that aren't so obvious can lend to a better approach to the more practical. For example, understanding psychology and reading up on d n g for example has helped me at least in reducing stress and confusion when dealing with people and their actions that harm what i see as just and beautiful. But we don't know what we don't know, and maybe theres that magic paragraph that gives the key to achieving many of the actions and influences we desire to do so. maybe its vain but god knows what isnt.

Philosophers are completely disposable and the reason why they used to be held in high regard was because they were polymaths. There's a reason why the only relevant ones are from the antiquity.

Philosophers often serve as critical voices in society, challenging assumptions, norms, and ideologies. They question the status quo, helping us re-examine fundamental beliefs and values

I mean, in marxism the socialist leaders are also necessarily philosophers in that sense, and one among them is elected and deemed to be their philosopher-king.

Plato must be laughing from the grave: 2000 years and we have barely moved away from the foundations he set.
