Nolan's films have been getting progressively worse and worse, with Oppenheimer being his absolute shittest. Oppenheimer is even worse than Tenet, and Tenet was worse than Dunkirk, and Dunkirk was worse than Interstellar, and Interstellar was worse than The Dark Knight Rises. It cares a whole lot about the son and it cares a moderate amount about the cyclops and it basically doesn't give a shit about the sirens.
Like 50% of the intended emotion you're supposed to get from it is about how unfair and/or fair everyone is to Odysseus and how he suffers so so terribly while being such a very good guy. And then another 20% is hamfisted piety toward the gods.
Modern audiences don't care about that the way the Greeks did, and for good reason. If you're not interested in what the Greeks cared about then I guess try skipping ahead until Odysseus shows up?
