What is magic to you?

magic is basically soul science

Magic is, as you say it, “magic”.

magic is the victory of mind over the minds attempt to convince you there's anything but mind itself. like when I cheated on her with her mother in her own bed and convinced myself none of it was my fault and I deserved none of the consequences.

It depends on the auth- oh…

OP image makes a good point. If magic is an opinion, or a point of view, or an angle, or a position, etc, then what would you call this?

It’s called the mind’s eye. Psychology. It’s the chemistry in the brain leading up to “wow, it’s like magic!”, even if the same words aren’t used (“it’s not magic, it’s a miracle!”, “it’s not magic, it’s science!”, etc), and calling something Magic™ isn’t going to prevent someone else calling something else “magic” if it freaks them out enough. Tolkien knew this. It’s why magic to him is just enchantment. Without enchantment magic is no longer magic. The elves don’t see themselves as magical beings since they aren’t enchanting themselves. Even machines can be seen as magic if it’s enchanting enough, or horrifying enough in the case of Mordor’s black machines.

Magic is exposure logic, yeah. Mystery. Wonder. It all ties in together.

The soul is just the consciousness. So in essence the view of magic is the science of perception.

What people perceive as magic is

Subconscious assumptions about how the world works + thing I don’t control.

Moderns think people are gods that can theoretically control anything and that the only things that are real are things people can control so they don’t see or believe in magic.

Believing in gods is a variant of believing in aliens. Believing in magic is a variant of believing in mad science, or exotic physics. It’s all alien. It’s all at the edges.

Magic is real.

The chemistry in the brain leading up to “wow it’s like magic!” is very real. But the external phenomena that reinforces such is subjective. Magic lies in the mind’s eye.

Magic is a a threshold into compartments of understanding that have yet to be explored or incorporated into a larger paradigm of knowledge. Physicians were magicians until medicine became a domain of science; same thing with chemistry. Philosophers were magicians until philosophy was reduced to a pedagogical exercise or divorced from its original intent by compressing it into the discrete 'sciences' of sociology, psychology, and so on.

All real philosophy is magic.

Magic to me was about putting your will or intention into the hive mind of humanity in order to produce change.

it was only much later that i realized this is the actual definition of magic stated by crowley

>Crowley defined magick as "the art and science of causing change to occur in conformity with the will."

I also agree with alan moore about art being magic. There are many ways to to produce magical change and art is one of them, just as much as ceremonies or rituals

this gets close, but science is empirical in a way that study of the soul inherently cannot be
magic is soul math.

Magic, i think in any form must rely on the philosophy underpinnings of Epiphenominalism.
Where physical and non physical reality do exist. And only interact with each other in certain times under certain conditions.
When you talk about "real magic"
its the transformation of the nonphysical into the physical. Which as I can see it, is when ideas become reality. Your inner world becomes your outer world.
This can be expressed in ways of emotions.
like lashing out, laughing, kissing someone you love, hugging someone.
It can also be expressed in the ways of responsibility, like doing whats good and virtious. Or when you have a picture/vision in your head and build it. Like putting the blueprints in your head and pulling them out there in the real world.
The practice of magic would involve things that energize or drain these things, or influence them in ways and direct them at targets to achieve an end. Magic would then be a form of inspiration

Tricks of the devil. Magic isn't natural nor is it good, it's a deviation from the standard functionality of the world done for either the amusement of or power acquisition of humans. This is how magic has ALWAYS been seen by the vast majority of people except insane satanists who ended up regretting their usage of "magic" (you even had a mockery of this in media, like with Gilbert & Sullivan's The Sorcerer). It wasn't until recently with the purposeful promotion of shit like Harry Potter while religion became demonized that "magic" became a "good thing" and people started researching into mentally-ill freaks like Evola when they should be living in the real world and making friends/going out/doing sports/building a family/&c.
