new Pynchon
from the preview copy

>The Blastophaga psenes, that microscopic Levantine infiltrator, had been shuttling between the Racine cheese caves and the bootleg fig stills of Kenosha County since 1929, carrying in its thorax not merely the genetic detritus of ancient Smyrna cultivars but the molecular blueprints of what Department of Agriculture entomologists would later classify as "economic terrorism via pollinator manipulation"—though by then the Wisconsin Syndicate Wars had already claimed seventeen lives, six of them sycologists. Dr. Mehmet Özdemir, formerly of the Constantinople Fig Research Institute (dissolved 1923, personnel scattered to the winds like so much pollen), had been recruited by the Kowalski Cheese Consortium specifically for his expertise in sykomyzithra, that forbidden Anatolian technique of introducing fig latex into aged cheddar during the crucial forty-eight-hour window when the bacterial cultures achieved what he called "mystical receptivity." His rival, Professor István Balogh of the defunct Austro-Hungarian Ficus Commission, had thrown his considerable knowledge of wasp migration patterns behind Big Eddie Torrino's fig brandy operation, transforming what should have been a simple matter of Prohibition-era bootlegging into a complex dance of cross-pollination sabotage that made Hicks's old troubles at the Pullman yards look like a Sunday picnic.

>The wasps, of course, knew nothing of national loyalties or commercial allegiances—they followed the ancient chromosomal imperatives embedded in their ganglia by ten million years of Mediterranean evolution, drifting between the secret fig orchards hidden in abandoned WPA tunnels and the climate-controlled cheese aging facilities that honeycombed the bluffs overlooking Lake Michigan like some fever dream of industrial dairy mysticism. Each female wasp carried approximately 600,000 spores of Botrytis cinerea modified through techniques that Özdemir had learned from Sufi dervishes in Konya, spores that would either enhance the fig brandy's hallucinogenic properties or utterly destroy a wheel of aged Swiss depending entirely on lunar phases and the operator's understanding of what the Ottoman court sycologists had termed "the Seventeen Sacred Ratios." Professor Balogh, meanwhile, had been dosing his assigned wasp populations with microscopic amounts of Hungarian paprika extract, creating what he believed would be a "ethno-nationalist pollination signature" that would bind the insects to Torrino's operation through what could only be described as arthropod patriotism.

>By winter of 1932, with Hicks McTaggart somewhere in the Carpathian Mountains chasing phantoms and probably unaware that his own investigation had been compromised from the start by fig-wasp politics, the entire Lake Michigan basin had become a biochemical battlefield where the simple act of eating cheese or drinking bootleg liquor might trigger cascading neurological events mapped out in research papers that existed only in the private libraries of men who claimed to have studied under the last Grand Sycologist of Topkapi Palace. The techniques of sycological warfare, refined over centuries in the monasteries of Mount Athos and the commercial fig groves of Anatolia, had been adapted to industrial-scale food production with a ruthless efficiency that would have impressed even the Swiss. The wasps continued their ancient rounds, indifferent to the human schemes that depended on their microscopic cargo, while in Washington certain files were being quietly transferred from the Department of Agriculture to more shadowy bureaucracies that specialized in threats no one had thought to name until now.

I am going to say larp based on their lacking the Pynchon signature of adopting and mangling the style of the time period the work is set in. But I did not put much effort into analyzing them, post a photograph of a page or two.

i'm too old for this shit. if this is genuine pynchon has gone insane and become his own satirist.

It's not totally unconnected and I can see where he has drawn the link multiple times between something that is seemingly irrelevant using a sort of stream of consciousness but it is extremely verbose and insists upon itself

Yeah it's interesting, it reads as almost authentic at spots but zigs where Pynchon zags. It's not landing the gags in quite the right way. Very difficult to describe why exactly I feel so confident but if this is in the book I will eat my hat.

That's because whether it is images, text, music etc. there is still an uncanny valley with A.I. generated content. I want to believe to a certain extent there always will be if you know what to look out for.

You heretical dog there is only one RA. When all other elements have burned away RA will remain unchanged. RA was the first and the last.

at this point, why not make a short story collection rather than a doorstopper novel? You can make some episodes zanier and other more grim and nobody has to pretend there is some coherence among the whole mess. Easier to read, also.

To the attention of Mr. Pinecone:
Hey Pinch, Pinchie, pinche Pynch. Have you thought you can get more dough, by selling short wet farts instead of these long turds that your editor calls "novels"?
Please consider this idea Ruggles.
