so

Devil makes a bet with God for Fausts soul. God says, 'sure thing buddy'

Then, Faust is like 'boy, im bored with life, im 40, i have nothing to show for it, so fuck it, ill make this deal with you." he offers very little resistance

so he falls in love with this virgin girl, gets her and her brother killed, he goes to an orgy, goes on some adventures wtih the devil, then hes repentent at the end on his death bed and angels fight for his soul and he ascends and is reuinted with gretchen

The angels represent the lutheran concept of sola gratia. His salvation is unearned but thats the point of Lutheranism. I think this is lost on modern atheist and evangelical audiences. There are some really great lines in Act 1.

>sola gratia.

a lot of people have trouble understanding this concept. What it means is only you and God know if you are evil deep down, therefore there is no point in trying to bullshit God by pretending to be nice or performing acts of charity.

I know deep in my soul that the only way I can get into heaven is with God’s mercy because I’m sure as hell no saint

But this just seems to deny the unity of soul and body, form and matter. "We are what we repeatedly do," as Aristotle puts it. You cannot do good works by your own hand without taking on some of their character.

You know what? I think what makes the Prots work is this great Severing of Soul and Body. Catholics know that a human is a human and is an integrated whole of Spirit and Matter. So do the Orthos. But Protestants think there's a Spirit that can be separated from Earthly doings, and that Spirit is the REAL human. That's the trouble of it all, and it's very nefarious because it basically posits that what we know as real isn't actually real. Anyone by their instincts knows that a complete human is both Spirit and Matter, but the Protestants would have us prioritize Spirit and believe that Matter can't be accounted-for. Catholics have historically been wiser than this.

This is not even close to what sola gratia means. I can't tell if you are a tradcath or a garden-variety retard.
