Should the sequels have followed the groundwork that this trilogy laid?

Is that the one where Luke is teaching students and one of them secretly builds a lightsaber with multiple magic crystals, creating a gay pride flag lightsaber

They should've copied Foundation and Dune and taken place several hundred years after the OT so as to give the cast a new galaxy to play around in.

Should've gone the Gundam route and made the new trilogy an AU not connected to previous films outside of themes and concepts.

>“Is that Luke drinking hot chocolate?”
>”Is that Luke’s clone with a SECOND U in his name? A second fucking U?! I’m going insane!”
People have been seething about that second U and Luke sipping hot chocolate longer than I’ve been alive. Kek

They took this from you. Sith Lords hating hot chocolate is no longer canon because of Disney.

Yeah. When they brought back Luke, Leia, and Han and made them the most important characters in the new trilogy I knew it was going to be bad. As if the entire universe is centered around these three people.

>Film 1: open ROTJ, the Emperor has forSEEN this *gazes down on to the Witch of Endor -- Emperor's Hands are organizing the kayfabe 'collapse' of the Empire, strip mining capital and resources to outer systems and Wild Space, where the super weapons projects are approaching real maturity alongside Sith Archaeology
>Thrawn is ready and willing to lead the Chiss on an immediate Imperial Reconquista after Yavin IV -- but is delayed per the Grand Design above.
>"There is another . . . " Leia? Or Joruus C'Baoth OT Ben and OT Yoda were willing to have Luke be a patricide, lying by omission, real pieces of work for 'jedi'
>C'Baoth is an opportunity for pre-Clone Wars Republic and Jedi Order politics, specifically Count Dooku being his direct "The Jedi must become Praetorians and rule." thematic origin.
>C'Baoth having Dagobah Luke Doppelganger identity and memory crises was everything nuWars failed to capitalize on with Finn: clones aren't supposed to be force sensitive, ever. It's a mystery Vader and Sidious' own clone projects failed to deliver on for essence transfer: this is the mystery and the intrigue that fascinates Luke enough to perhaps tempt him.
>B Plots with Leia, stay behind spy networks, Mara Jade, Hand/Lando
>Second Trilogy: Have Thrawn take possession of the Lost Fleet but campaign against the New Republic, creating an opening for the Imperial 'Warlords' of the Remnant to drop kayfabe and move all at once on the core systems in tandem with the stay behind networks going live
>Rukh & Nogri religion of Vader worship vs. Cult of the Dark, the Hands (3rd Rail: former CIS systems re-arming so fast they probably were doing so under the empire secretly).
>Indiana Jones shit chasing Sith Artifacts in Wild Space for Hyper-Super Weapons and/or Sith Alchemy; maybe they have Luke's severed hand as a sample for cloning in mind where they find ...
>Rakata abandoned systems from antiquity, and prophecies of an extra-Galactic threat that would annihilate all life ...
>3rd Trilogy: Admiral Daala (Tarkin's mistress) and her Red Wedding-ing the Imperial Warlords, detente with the New Republic-- Vong.exe from there
The Thrawn Trilogy is fairly plot anemic and broad strokes; it required fleshing out arch-Boomer Bob Iger in acquisitions mode was in no mood to not churn out something within less than 5 years to get a return on the 4 billion outlay-- catastrophic given the Prequels' box office and merch revenue was built on a decade of multimedia (Shadows of the Empire). At this point they ought to just farm out the EU to some Jap company to make animes out of the entire thing for the next twenty years like

Should have done a trilogy where the Yuuzhan Vong invade and the force doesn't work on them.
Second movie in the trilogy ends with a hologram recording of Palpatine explaining he knew this was coming, and overthrew the useless jedi, the slow democratic system, and built a weapon that could stop them, so the New Republic realise they've killed themselves, because they need a death star.
But third movie gets every single species, faction, vehicle, droid, everything that's ever been in Star Wars, on screen for a big showdown, which can be seen as Star Wars vs not Star Wars.
