Conan the Barbarian dates back to 1932 and likewise there are similar books from that era and even somewhat back into the 1800s that share many similar motifs such as Serpent Cults sacrificing humans and Atlanteans, Sumerians (Cimmerians in Conan's case) and other things that seem taken from ancient history, but my question is if they are just rehashing concepts they read in older books then what books/etc did the authors of Conan/etc use to get those ideas from in the first place? Because those are the books I want to read. I'm assuming they must be ancient manuscripts from the 1800s/1700s/1600s/etc which describe "true" historical events (such as about Serpent Cults, Greek Gods really existing, other non-human entities, etc, all of which I believe too btw). But the real question is, why do we not know where these authors acquired their ideas and why are those same books/etc they used not available today? At least I can't find them.
