Reminder that America was considering German as the official language for their country more than any other because they didn't want to use the language of Britain. Greek was considered but eventually denied. I can't remember the exact reason that they stayed with English but I remember it being a very close issue, with an almost unanimous support for everyone learning German at one point. Can you imagine how different the world would have been, if John Adams and Andrew Jackson were reading Kant and Goethe?
