People who have been given the diagnosis are disproportionately victims of childhood abuse and instead of being helped by the therapists they thought were there to make them better, they are given diagnosis after diagnosis to explain that their struggles in life are entirely internal and a result of a malfunction in the brain, instead of the very real horrors they have experienced in life.
