I was browsing the News app on my phone yesterday and came across an article on... Vogue? Vanity Fair? Something. Anyway, an article on the reveal of that album cover, and the article had a written description of it, and it made me realize probably my greatest weakness as a writer is my lack of ability to describe attire and appearance. I wouldn't even know where to begin if I were paid to write a short sentence describing that image, yet whoever wrote the article did a good job once I saw the image afterwards, and it made me quite envious.

Sexsklavenmeister's leather whip cracked once and echoed around the chamber. An orb of sweat formed upon my upper lip. I caught it with my tongue. Something rose beneath my filthy underclothes.
"At attention, Untermenschen!" Her voice was girl-ike and deeply carnal.
"Ja, Sexsklavenmeister!" I ran to the bars of our cell and shook with joy.
Her vast and burning eyes met mine. Her vitriol; my rapture.
"Vat is your name?"
"Eh.. Shlomo. Shlomo Goldmann, Sexsklavenmeister!"
Her eyes ran up and down my soiled body like a grater. "You are disgusting. Inside and out."
"Ja! Ja!" I rapidly stuffed my throbbing organ into my waistband.
She unlocked the cage and led me to the blood-stained pillory.
"Drop trousers."
I dropped them.
The whip threw and coiled and caught; the flash of pain was incredible. If God speaks in suffering then this must be heaven. I wasn't even Jewish.

This is more a /mu/ thing but I was thinking about it when that boomer Rick keeps harping on the fragmentation of the music biz. Gaylord is the biggest selling star in music but name recognition is fuckall compared to a medium band from the 70s-90s. There can’t be a new Michael Jackson, some kind of inescapable cultural touchstone. The Swiftie fanatics live on an isolated island.

Books have the same problem but the peak is even lower. Best selling shit currently includes romantasy titles nobody knows jack shit about outside their gooner fanbase. The “big names” tend to have started in a different era. Everyone still knows Stephen King because of previous decades of sales and adaptations. Even more niche names like a John Grisham or Tom Clancy has name recognition modern best sellers (even in airport sloppa) can’t compete with.

I think it’s partly why we keep recycling shit from about the 70s-early 00s. Movies, music, books. Same looks, ideas, even games. Stuck on repeat, sequels, legacy/spiritual sequels.
There’s a whole book trend that does only this. Julia (aka female pov 1984), James (black pov Twain), what if Shakespeare but woman pov has at least 4 books, greek myths but woman or gay have entire series. It’s like we’re waiting for a world war to shake culture out of complacency.

A teacher at my uni commented we shouldn't try to make ChatGPT write our work because he can tell their essays apart from man-made ones from the AI's use of more complicated language than real engineering students.
I'm panicking because regularly use more complicated language than my peers (I'm a little of a pompous faggot) and now I'm scared of being false flagged as AI.
I have no idea how to prevent this from happening other than making my work a nigh-unreadable post-modernist mess.

I think another part is simply the insane levels of output we've reached. Every field of entertainment and art has been turned inside and out for the tiniest bit of novelty, and with the advent of the internet it's all available to us at all times. It's impossible for something to make an impact in the same way it did just a few decades ago because the pace of consumption means there's no time for deeper engagement, nor for much of a meaningful community to grow around something.

I feel like my life has no meaning, and I'm struggling to find motivation to keep going.
I have ambition, but everything I try fails.
I spent 24 hours making a YouTube video, only to get 50 views.
I spent months writing a novel, only for it to be read by web-crawlers.
I released a free game, only to get 2-3 downloads.
I send 100 job applications a year and only get Chat GPT-written rejection letters, never an interview, probably didn't even get read by a human.
I have no friends, and my siblings and parents are ashamed of me because I'm a loser.
I keep telling myself if I keep going, I will eventually succeed at something, but years go by at nothing has changed.

Either way, writing this out makes me feel a bit better.

You've already done what most people only qualify as dreams. A novel, a game. How many make broken promises to themselves, broken wishes about creating such. Is the act of creation not its own justification? In this world of hypersaturation, where outward, publicly mandated success is nothing more than a PR company's contrivance, do not expect a resounding reception. We must reconcile ourselves with creation for the act of creation, and ensure the art is sincere.

Art is dead, anyway. All the classical, capital forms of western art are exhausted. Only consumer slop and refigurations remain.

I thought sunscreen was just for sunburns and shit. It can actually slow down or even prevent the process of tanning when outside in the sun!? That's a gamechanger. In that case, if I start using it, wouldn't i just naturally de-tan overtime despite going out in the sun, or will that just keep me in a stasis -- ie while the sunscreen will prevent me from getting any more tanned, the sun will prevent me from de-tanning while I'm under its guise

Last night, I was about to get taken on a horrible ride by death anxiety, but I pulled myself out of it by shutting the fear down altogether in one swift mental move, and the night/month was saved.
I could feel the terror growing and about to take control. It's very hard to describe, but it's a sensation so intense it drowns out every other feeling and leaves me feeling beyond afraid and depressed. First time it happened it was hell, and it lasted for months. Second time for weeks. The time before this, a couple of hours...
Nothing is solved and nothing changes: I still will die one day, but I successfully put that feeling of intense dread somewhere in my mind where it can't reach me, like shutting it inside a box.
I know this is nothing to write home about, but it surprised me a lot and I'm thinking I can do this with every other feeling in my head if I try hard enough. Acknowledge the idea and accept it, then separate the idea from the sensation, and shut the sensation off before it becomes overpowering.
The other thing I want to try this on is lust, but unlike death anxiety, I like lust. Im afraid of letting go of it, I don't know what life would be like without it.

Most sunscreens are blocking the majority of uva and uvb exposure anyways (which is what gives you deep skin damage) and will prevent tanning if you're using a high SPF
That's why low SPF exists because people wanted to tan and were willing to accept some deep skin damage twenty years out in exchange for a tan now
Your tan should decrease if you're using a sun block the same way it would decrease if you're not getting sun exposure, so long as you use it as advised (spf is how much longer you can stay in sun without burning/tanning-- eg, if you would burn or tan in 5 minutes, SPF 30 will allow you approximately 150 minutes, though you're going to have to reapply it to really get that protection because your skin still sheds and sweats and rubs against stuff, removing the protection generally within 120 mins or faster if swimming and towelling is involved)
>>24645545
You can but most people don't like sardines and mackerel and mushrooms grown with light exposure enough to do it. There's also genetic factors which allow for low levels of vitamin D without any cell differentiation or calcium absorption problems, but there are genetic factors also where even if you get full exposure to the sun you are more likely to suffer vitamin d related problems.

Hmm, interesting, thank you, I might have to give this a try. I go for daily walks and I don't drive so I take the bus, and the nearest bus, the one I take all the time, is like a 15 minute walk away, and then you add the walking around in the city or wherever once I get to where I'm going, and all of this stuff starts to add up to tanning more than I'd like. I went out last night and looking at the pictures other people took featuring me, I don't care for it, I'd look so much better with a lighter skin tone is why I'm having an issue.

On the flip, missing out on the vitamin D intake would suck, and it does sound like a lot of work to apply sunscreen every time I wanna leave the house, especially because it's not the kind of thing I've ever done for any situation.

Anyway, thanks for the advice and information.

>vs. around 10,000 to 20,000 from ten minutes in the sun
Except that is decided by genetic factors. Further, most of the people with genetic problems with vit d absorption will have low levels even with sun exposure and medical grade supplements
Functionally, enough vit D is when you don't have cell differentiation or calcium absorption problems, which doesn't necessarily correspond to blood vit d levels.

Yes, but the problem with that is there's a meme that vit d blood levels are indicative of either of those problems when it's not evidenced by those problems actually presenting. Assuming that those differences from early morning sun exposure are only vit d mediated is flawed because there are other hormonal responses it generates too, which also affect bone density and mood and immunity. Anons problem could be a variety of hormones besides vit d, if it is hormonal at all

It's well documented that vit D levels in blood have a range where it doesn't correlate to actual disease in a way that makes it useful as a independent measure of dysfunction. The level of certainty you have in them isn't backed by science to the extent you're making out, which is why there are so many broad caveats.
I know it's nice to think there is something concrete you can do, and for most people it will be relatively harmless to think so, but the improvements you're touting aren't really present when studied. There is a reason doctors are cautioned it's not a sufficient result to assume a disease state, and broadly giving it to populations can cause problems. For example, one of the most common genetic disorders, Charcot Marie Tooth disease, could have a low level of vit d but if you give the patient with high calcium levels and low vit d levels more vit d, then the calcium spike that causes leads to permanent neurological damage.

What we have now is treatments for cancers which used run their course far more devastatingly commonly. The unnatural use of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, along with basic vaccines for things like small pox and tetanus and polio etc, are what allow you to have a life expectancy usually only seen by the extraordinarily well fed and cuddled in previous generations.

It's not just for women. Bigorexia is a competitive thing, like how women compete against other women in anorexia, so a lot of guys who are straight but doing steroids claim it's for women, but really it's about "more is always more" mindsets, so when women start looking at them like they're roided out freaks, they keep going
>>24646477
If you're in sports or performance it's way more common, again b/c it's a competition thing. PEDs are almost always about competitive edge at the heart of it, so even the bits that hide under aesthetics have names like looksmaxxing
That said the only steroids Ive taken have been injury related, so I can't guarantee those are the major reasons for taking them
Adding that some people use steroids for weight loss not just gaining, so some people on them don't plan to look like Arnie in his heyday at full pump at all, they just don't want to give up cheeseburgers. A lot of those are migrating to ozempic tho
