Let's discuss original light novels and web novels.
What novelz did you read? What are the most decent ones?
P.S
For the retarded jannies and mods:
A light novel (Japanese: ライトノベル, Hepburn: raito noberu) is a type of popular LITERATURE novel from Japan usually classified as young adult fiction.
Web fiction(including web novels)is written works of LITERATURE available primarily or solely on the Internet.
The image is on topic because it is part of the book.
All characters are original and not part of other domains

I read Mushoku Tensei. Everytime I read the books I felt like I was eating McDonald's, it's nothing but slop meant to hit you with cheap dopamine. The blatant self insertism from the author made me physically cringe more times than I can remember. I suspect most anime light novels are the same, I'm never reading them again.

I'm not antagonistic to the idea of this new General. But we already have a "WebNovelGeneral" and its already a very popular general. If you could explain exactly what the difference between a "web novel" and a "light novel" is? That might be helpful. Honestly OP image looks exactly like a representative "web novel" cover. Because if there's no substantial difference what's the point.

Anyway, I really liked this (picrel) show and have been working on getting the whole series in a zip file.
Are they worth reading?
Is the humor as dark as the anime?
I can't imagine the books are as episodic as the show was, but I can imagine it not really working as well without visuals and through some amateur translators filter.

All the horror web novels are being written in China, they love that shit. Japan doesn’t seem to have as many for some reason, at least in the light novel space (manga it’s a different story). For Japanese there’s Torture Princess, Perfect Blue, and Boogiepop.

For China/Korea there is My House of Horrors, Got dropped into a ghost story still gotta work, Dao of Bizarre Immortal.

Also it’s technically web fiction but you can look up some creepy old fictions on the internet. I remember the first one I read was “The dogscape” which was really silly but I still liked the horror aspect of it.

I wanted to get into LNs but I dunno OP, I think this sort of thing might just be way above my power level. Tried reading picrel but it had some of the most dry and boring prose, on top of the whole thing feeling like a self-insert fantasy for the author.
Then I thought I'd read the Monogatari series but that shit has like 10 books. Same with 86 (and it's not even finished). Thought about checking out LOTGH but apparently the anime is better?

I've been reading through it in Japanese. The first volume isn't great but it picks up a lot after that. Very similar kind of humor to the anime and gets increasingly absurd as things go on. It's more of a collection of, surprisingly intricate, short stories which are tied together by reports written at the end of each volume.
I'd say it's worth reading if you liked the anime, even if you don't like it as much it's short enough that you don't suffer much of a loss
