Some people who read blood meridian and feel like they got it no problem have a lower level of comprehension than those who didn't finish it cause they felt like they couldn't understand it. Its a very individual thing how uncertain you can feel of how much before you feel like you're not reading the book right.
You can obviously look words up, but sometimes what's tricky is how they're used and just knowing the definitions doesn't make things clear. Sometimes he'll use a term so obscure its hard or impossible to even look it up.
Look up as much as you can be bothered to look up, reread as much as you can be bothered with bits your unsure of try and figure them out, but don't take any of these practices to the point that they stop you from getting to the end. Do them as much as you can without turning the book into a chore, and making any real effort will make it so you probably understand the book better than a lot of people who claim to have had no problem with it.
Also the vast majority of literature is way easier to read than Blood Meridian. Other Cormac McCarthy books are a million times easier than Blood Meridian. Give The Road a try if you want to see how big the difference can be If you tried to read 20 random other "real literature" books they would all probably be way easier than Blood Meridian. If its the first serious literature book you've tried you really jumped in at the deep end.
