To woo me, you must be proficient in the reading of tea leaves, the conjunctions of heavenly bodies, faces, ley-lines, the movements of a cat's tail, incoming weather systems (including cloud formations), creole, words in languages you do not understand, the diseases of fruit trees, the shapes bees chart through the air, the boiling sea, and the feeling of a place.

That's me in the middle. With the glasses. My memory is imperfect on this day. I'd spend the whole night with Gregory, just talking. We talked about nominal determinism and other theories of language. He had a little cocaine and we rubbed it into our gums from time to time. We didn't want to block our nose. We needed our breath to speak. We spoke the whole night. When the dawn broke our voices were hoarse and we were covered in sweat. Sometimes when you get close to the core of something, you can feel the heat and energy emanating. We drove down to the beach to watch the sun come up. We held hands. I thought about kissing him. Sometimes I still do.

There's a good chance that the smart guys will want someone dumb.

This is relative to your intelligence as well. You don't want someone smart, you want someone smarter than you. The smarter you become, the less options you have.

Also, dumb people can know how to make a lot of money.

it's not so much a question of what you read, as long as it's not slop
it's how impressive your command of the material is, and your ability to ask interesting questions and have original thoughts about it
of course, this is less important than having a good and pleasing temperament and being physically appealing (no, the bar is not that high)

Maybe you'll understand that his ideal is not really possible. his intellectual superior or equivalent has more to offer than him. i.e. intellectually equivalent women by default see themselves as superior.

It's not bad to show similar interests. But I wouldn't force it.
Appreciation is a skill that I'd say requires a lot of intelligence. If he can't appreciate you then he's a pseud.

OP, this guy sounds great, don't listen to the idea that all you can offer of value is beauty and love, these are very important yes but being able to genuinely intellectually connect with someone is a prerequisite to a respectful and mutually beneficial relationship and this guy seems to really want that.

Reading in the sense of "flipping pages so you can mark the book as done" will only be a massive detriment to you, if you tell this guy that you've read a book and then be able to give no interesting commentary or unique perspective on it it will only make you seem less intelligent. The only answer here is to the study and to really study, make sure you fully grasp CONCEPTS, again flipping pages means nothing you need to UNDERSTAND.

If you don't already then grasp the concept of "the absurd" within existentialism/absurdism, you will find it is present in almost all philosophical works to some degree

I don't want worship, I want someone who I could talk with for hours about books and art and so on. Dumb people are just annoying and boring. Why would you want someone that you consider intellectually inferior unless you want to be their master?

>Dumb people are just annoying and boring.
I can entertain myself with someone who you think isn't smart.

I'm pointing out a benefit to being with someone who you'd probably consider to be dumb.
Yes, I can level intellectually with someone with less education than me.
There was no mention of a master/servant dynamic. I can see how you'd think that though.
Being able to:
> talk with for hours about books and art and so on
does not require me to check for intellectual standards as I can treat them as a person differ tent from me with idea's and opinions of their own and a life lived that is different from mine.

Which is interesting in of itself.

Giving someone some kind of IQ test before considering if their worth talking to is pretty low. Even for the most psuedo of psued's with a degree.

I'll take the "dumb" one over the brainwashed one. Thank you.

You don't need to give people some kind of an iq test, you just get that gut feeling after talking to them. All kinds of people can be interesting, but you need more than that if you hope to spend the rest of your life with somebody.

>I'll take the "dumb" one over the brainwashed one. Thank you.
If a person isn't "brainwashed" they're already not dumb.

have some particular interest and actually something on it.
what impresses me isn't say someone "read the greeks" (that would be cool but I wouldn't expect it) but if they just have a sort of serious approach to understanding so if they have some hobby or interest they actually put in the basic foundational effort to understand what's involved in it.
If it was gardening, some hobby/craft, anything like that just having anything you don't just have a surface level understanding of but actually like put some effort in to get decent at it and understand it and maybe it's history for it's own sake.

if you just read the generic "male books intellectuals read" it comes off as very pickme, be authentic to your actual interests just be intentional about understanding them at a deeper level.
