Why is half the textbook dedicated to this nonsense? Marxism isn't even culturally relevant anymore.

Looks like it is a criticism and theory text for those who are not studying criticism and theory, like an English lit major who just needs the broad over view. 100 level class and hardly representative of anything but 100 level classes.

Because the humanities don't pretend the past ceased to exist once they discover they are wrong. Much of theory and criticism is history.

I'm not giving credit to the school for this but I can think of some good reasons.

It's the study of a manifesto. Dissecting and application of the manifesto can teach how idea's can and often do have an impact on the world.

If they taught Marxism the same as, say, Mein Kampf, There would be a lot of psuedo nazi's running around thinking they know everything.

Somehow teaching Marxist theory while taking on a bunch of debt is the perfect amount of hypocritical burden.

I've never seen a textbook dedicate an entire chapter to flat-earth theory or spontaneous generation.

Notice how each of those sections has a chapter titled "Methodology," that is the methodology of literary criticism which developed within the Marxist philosophy. It is not teaching Marxism, it is teaching Marxist criticism and probably only cover the small portion of Marxist criticism which survived past Marxism and had an influence on things to come, hence it only being 16 pages long.

What ever this book is, it is written for people like you, those who have no idea what criticism and theory are.

I never said or even implied Marxism is correct, only acknowledged that it exists and has historical relevance to literary criticism and theory. You just crammed adhom, strawman, and goalpost moving all into one post, you don't seem to be on particularly stable ground. Care to address what was said instead of playing games?

OP pic is not English lit studies, it is a theory and criticism text and such a text is a one semester class at the start of a English lit degree to provide a broad overview of the theory and criticism which English literature can not be removed from. Seethe if you want but this sort of theory and criticism is what separates Western lit from the rest of the world and is not new, it goes back to the Greeks, hence the meme.

Fraudulent, decadent, self-indulgent culture eating itself alive to the point of implosion. Unquestionably Haram. Meaningless cannibalism of the past in order to secure a paycheck from a university.

If you get the feeling of a faded greatness and exhaustingly endless deconstruction, you are absolutely right. That greatness came from those faithful in God, a faded Light, and it is Islam that has the power to steer the West back to God.

It is God, the Light, Al Noor, that has driven humanity to build its greatest works for culture. Stray from the Light and the spark is gone, only a rotted corpse to endlessly poke and prod to compensate for a lack of that inner spark of faith inside the intellectual. For a lack of ability to bring forth something entirely new.

It's true though and this book seems to be from the nineties.
Notice how for feminism it says 60s, 70s, 80s and then present-day. And queer theory would *not* be called "gay and lesbian criticism" today.
The classic Franco-Frankfurtian stuff (Structure, Sign & Play *the* classic Anglo-Derrida text) is frankly very retro. Instead there would be a looot more race and trans stuff now.

Because a great many people can't see past their politics and filter everything they read through their politics (see /lit/). It mostly is a way to force those sorts to be productive in class discussion and keep them from seething about their politics; if you must reduce it to politics then this is how you go about it if you do not want to fail this required entry level class.

A large, popularly embedded, Marxist group in alliance with several nationalist Islamist groupings, some of whom which are influenced by Maoism, launched an assault on the West on Oct 7 two years ago that has thrown the world into chaos.
