not hard to believe. the current market and climate would be near impossible for someone like wolfe to break into. read any "list" or go into any bookstore and the shelves are dominated by female authors writing slop for young adult women. a guy like ted chiang has achieved some acclaim but he's like if you took an idea from borges or wolfe and then stripped it of character and beautiful prose.
