An Attempt at Exhausting a Day on /Lit/
To honour the anniversary of Georges Perec losing his virginity to my libertine grandmother, let us pull this place apart with a dissection of the infraordinary.

An inventory of strictly visible things:
—Images of faces: a famous national socialist; myriad Russian authors; a Swiss psychologist, combinations of philosophers (largely European); a popular figure of fiction, holding a gun; a youth upon a subway, pretending to read a book professing incalculable humour; an army of frogs, in varied expression; several severe and nymphlike women, both photographic and simulacra; a homoerotic Grecian marble. The majority of these figures wear unpleased expressions and are deceased.

—Trajectories: from arrogance and insecurity; from honesty and insincerity; from parity and inequity; from expectancy to misery. Arguments initiate, perpetuate, and self-immolating. All threads, in time, become host to squabbles. Things move in slow circles. The majority are unaware.

—Contradictions: between self-enforced seclusion and the effects of said seclusion; between using writing to agonise over the inability to write; between reading words that complain of not reading; between hating women yet requiring them, and this for many purposes.

My grandmother had hands like a harpy. Whether in burning flame or boiling water, she felt nothing. When I was young and she was already old, I sat on the kitchen table while she did the dishes, the water so hot that the confines filled with steam. Like this she would tell me stories. She told me she was Perec's first. He was only sixteen. But she also told me she slowdanced with Joseph Goebbels during the occupation. She drank a lot of sherry. She smoked a pack a day. Women like her are now an dying species, like the Coelacanth.

—On Lurings, or Bait: employing an alluring women (whether biological, artistic, or otherwise), these are the most successful; via the employment of a prancing puppy; via pretending idiocrasy (or actually being so); via contriving a statement to elicit outrage; via the employment of a screenshot containing another’s words (often controversial); alluding to the fact that one is female; alluding to that fact that one is useless (or actually being so); or begging for aid (then always rejecting it).

A flurry of activity: requests, impossible questions, questions are poised with a single answer in mind, not unlike a crossword.
A flurry of complaints: about prose, about plot, about women, about men, about the current condition of everything (including the board itself), the state of literature, the state of publication, about the state of their own state, about competitor websites, about fellows on the board, about anything written after 100BC, about a myriad of other races and cultures, about the youth, complaints about posts making so many complaints.
