Since when do writers ever even need to be in the same room out of necessity?

Wouldn't it be better to save your energy socializing with publishers and editors?

Not that you can't have writers friends, but I'm fairly certain the climate makes it completely acceptable for you to publicly tell another writer to essentially "fuck off" if you feel like it (not that I'm saying to go and do such a thing).

The fact that you believe being a socialite is favorable for a writer points towards the industry being really bad about systemic nepotism/favoritism.

I think networking in any field is always a very good choice. Especially nowadays since Litterature has been engulfed by the entertainment industry and you need as many contacts as possible.
