Keep at it, eventually you gain mental resilience and reading becomes quicker.

You must've really read it well then. I'd say put 1/5th the amount of work the artist put in his book before you can say you've read him.

I used to be like you, could not read shit, then I started buying shorter books (150-200 pages) and now I am reading faster. I am about to finish Crime and Punishment after 3 months with a 1 month break included.

On the other hand I can go through a shorter book on a week or less if I do not have anything else to do that week.

Don't worry my cute green nigga. That is probably still an manifold of what most people read.
But what are you reading? Maybe read shorter books or books that are easy to read. Houellebecq or Nabokov are faster to read than Arno Schmidt or Geothe.

Some books are very dense and technical and can be cognitively strenuous whereas others are very light and surface level.
Either way, who cares, it’s not like it’s a contest or something. Just go at your own pace and enjoy it.

I recommend shorter books.
Anonymous No.24669447
Lovely thread. Whatever pace allows you to adequately absorb the information is good. Many people (not all) who read fast aren't actually reading

quality over quantity. No reason rush through 300 books a year if you're trying to speed-read them and not actually get to enjoy the book.

This meme is right. I'm almost halfway thru my expected lifespan and I've only read about ~200 titles (a good amount of them rereads).

For me it's about 8 days for the Frame translation, 5 hours for The Time Machine, if I'm taking my sweet time.

If you read so slow it is because you are not passionate enough about the book, if you are hooked you could read 300-400 in a day, I am talking about non-fiction, fiction can be 600-700. When you like it, you devour it, you read for 8 hours without stopping.

12 books a year is far more than most people read nowadays

Chill your tits anon, it's not a race. What's important is that you are reading the text and absorbing its themes and meanings which is magnitudes better than most people (and like half of this board,) just keep on reading.

I think you just gotta find a book you're really interested in
Sometimes I'll read a book that I'm only moderately interested in, and my eyes will glaze over and I'll read an entire chapter and have no idea of what I just read

but in such a short life there is no way that i'll be able to read all of the books that i want to, especially not at this rate. there are so many classics that i've yet to read, not to mention the literature that i don't know about yet.

not bad at all, certainly more than most. I'm convinced the people reading through multiple books every week are either if not all:
a) unemployed
b) terminally online
c) no other hobbies

at minimum 12 books a year is a good amount anon (y)

think about this: ai has read every book to have been written. how cool is that

It's going to take me a little over a month to read the book I'm reading. It's 652 pages and I can't remember the last time I attempted a novel over 400 pages because I often start to feel lost and restless in the middle of a long book. But it's a book I'm very interested in and I've kept a good habit of reading consistently longer than I usually do so I'm pushing myself to start and finish it. I read Gulag: A History which was pretty long too and I finished that also, so I think I'll be good
