Is the purpose of our existence something to be discovered, as though it were a predetermined truth, or is it something we must create for ourselves?

our purpose is to live, laugh, love. everything else is cope

Alas, i believe that humans still haven't figured out all the complexities of the natural order which lefts more room for discovery, but at the same time, humans are creative beings, so outside of scientific echo chamber, they create something meaningful for themselves, just for the sakes of it

I think of it very practically.

1. Spiritually, I believe there is a capital p Purpose and that our existence and soul functions for a much higher plane than I believe we will ever understand in this lifetime. We are a reflection of the unseen. This obviously ties in to God.

2. Materialistically, I believe our purpose is to breed. Everything in life is programmed towards that.

3. I do believe to a certain extent we also have to author a personal meaning but that it should also be in accordance to the overall Purpose that I believe in, which I mentioned in #1. But if we decide our purpose is to swindle or kill people, then that goes against that Greater Purpose therefore, you're fucking up and you will lose your soul.

When most people talk about their "purpose" what they are actually referring to is "something that makes me happy AND/OR fulfilled AND/OR puts me in a flow state".
This is neither discovered nor created, if you look deep down to the root of your motivations you probably already know exactly what you need to get there, or at least have a general gist of the direction you need to head towards.
