Made it to page 43 in like 2 weeks of reading, how am I doing? Just finished reading like 4 pages and already ready for a break. Something wrong, innit?

How much time do you dedicate to reading? If you're only reading for a few minutes a day then getting through 43 pages in two weeks is an accomplishment. If you're reading for more than an hour a day and have only made 43 pages of progress I'd consider switching books if you aren't enjoying the experience. If you're having fun with the characters & concepts I'd recommend ignoring the page count and reading until it stops being interesting.

definitely a couple minutes, maybe 10 to 15 at most. Im not GAWDLIKE enough yet to just read for hours straight anymore. My child brain was better about that

I genuinely know absolutely nothing about this book and what it's about.
I see it posted online occasionally and my assumption based on observation is that it's a performative/liberal/lefty/feminist piece of literature that is meant to serve as a signal for affiliation more than anything else.

i did it in a similar amount of time when i was ~16. i worked in a museum in a small town over a summer, so i spent 8 hours a day doing nothing but reading, posting here, and playing disgaea on my ds. as such, i finished it (a reread, mind you) in maybe two work weeks

My god! I gotta hand it to you, and give a round of applause, anon. 43 pages, in this book any way, is like reading 73,526 pages, of footnotes. You aren't just a hero, you're more than that, at least to me, you are my personal hero. What an inspiration, an honest-to-god inspiration, you are. Congratulations, and thanks, today, for the extra dose, of hopeium.

Thanks. I try, having ADHD and all. Back when I was 18, it was borderline impossible to read a book at all, and a much smaller book at that. Russel's history of philosophy. I kept having to reread wtf he was on about with sense data. I can read much easier now

Yes, there is something wrong. Otherwise the author would not have ended his life. There is something wrong with our entire society, and the root of it is straying from the holy Light of God.

It is not normal for all of these young people to be killing themselves. It is not normal for people to abandon God. Postmodernism is shallow and depressing. Deconstructing the past is half-hearted and full of malice, while constructing something new with heart and effort is actually meaningful.

You don't have to read this tome or any other like it. You don't have to conform to contemporary trends in culture. I suggest taking a huge step back from the edge of the cliff that society is veering off, reading the Holy Koran, and choosing a path of light and goodness over dark and depressing self-indulgence.

i saw a meme about it on instagram and my english teacher had a poster of time's top 100 books of the 20th century (which featured the book in question), so i got my mom to buy it the next time i went to chapters. she then made a point of telling just about every visitor to our house that i was reading an 1100 page novel – her motives are still inscrutable

perhaps you would enjoy it as an audiobook?
Anonymous No.24673426 >>24673429

Thats almost certainly true. But I want to learn how to get used to reading real books, especially because audiobooks have this sort of subjective problem where I may not hear the words exactly right and have to guess what theyre saying.

The amount of times ive had to rewind an audiobook is infinitely more than Ive had to reread a page or sentence. I only look up unfamilar words

It is slightly easier to make it out as right than left, but you have to be at least part retard to see it as having a political agenda/ideology.
>>24671740
You're doing fine, just keep at it and you will build up your endurance.
>>24672407
Why? and how did you feel about tennis before IJ? After reading IJ I started ging to sports bars in the we-hours to watch tennis.
>>24672654
I got through it is 4 days, started it when I got home after work on Friday and did little but read all weekend. Called in sick on Monday so I could finish it. But the audio book is 28 hours and most people can read at least that fast and generally read faster unless they rarely read, 10 day is just 2.8 hours a day.

I need to develop this endurance, I could get through so many philosophy books so quickly to start discussing them or even rereading if I could read like this, since theyre generally short but dense in meaning.

it's just rehashed William Burroughs for the Kurt Cobain generation.

they say if something is written at a level 15IQ points above or below your own, you will have a hard time staying engaged. in this case i would say it is most likely above you. he was a very smart person. that's ok. there are a lot of other books out there for you.

Just keep reading and keep challenging yourself with what you read, you will get there.

>t. the retarded generation
If it is a rehash of anything it is a rehash of Gaddis but even that is a stretch, almost a rebuttal of The Recognition but not really.
>>24673797
Sticking to your level is the best way to stay stupid, it is complacency. Most of the issues people have with literature is simply not understanding the tools and techniques of literature, which anyone of average intelligence can grasp if they put in the time. Your "they system" is poorly developed.
