He was writing in the early 80s and early 90s about AI takeover / the singularity which in and of itself isn’t anything particularly unique, it’s the way we get there and his writing style in general that’s interesting.
His central motif is that capital, a noumena (something which exists in and of itself and exists through the intellect) has come to assemble itself into an AI which will bring about the singularity as humans fade into nothing.
Land argues this is an inevitability and so we may as well accelerate the process to bring it about sooner.
This is a really condensed summary and leaves a lot out.
I plan to go back and re-read Famged Noumena after I read some other philosophy.
I read Fanged Noumena because I thought it was interesting. The only other philosophy book I read was Revolt Against the Modern World by Evola years ago.
Now I’m reading Critique of Pure Reason by Kant since it seems like a logical place to start and I’ll go from there.
In any case, Fanged Noumena really is a wonderful collection of essays. The themes are dark, the writing is intentionally fragmented and dense, and due to it being an anthology you don’t necessarily have to read it on sequential order.
There are free PDFs online so maybe ask ChatGPT where to start and then just read an essay and see what you think.
