>The Tenth Coelacanth
As an investment banker and avid numismatist and notaphile, Jesse Cohen's life is money. First quarter, 2006, Jesse is gifted a 1000 franc note from Comoros by Mary Beth, his secretary. Initially, he's not particularly moved by the design on the note: largely blue, with a coelacanth on the front and man in a boat on the back... but, none the less, into his collection of bank denominations from different countries it goes.
Over the course of four days, however, things change. Mary Beth's birthday is coming up Jesse wants to resurrect their relationship. Jesse sees coelacanths everywhere, a special on TV, a plush at the store, coelacanth wallpaper... He revisits the Comoros bill and, as a member of the International Bank Note Society, decides to vote for it as bank note of the year. On that fourth day, he makes a reservation for a birthday dinner for two at Le Bernardin.
