You can buy like 6 hardback books for 5 dollars at flea markets /recross/salvation army; and that can last you 2 years if you are a normy. Its probably the cheapest hobby to have next to playing chess online.

My mum was the opposite and was so proud that I was a voracious reader from the age of 4 onwards. Even though we were far from rich she would always buy me a book if I asked for it. I love my mum.

When I was a kid I was hanging out with a friend and we both loved this book series and so we walked to the book store and bought a copy each
The money I spent had been given to me earlier by my grandmother and when my mom heard about it she got incredibly furious, drove me back to the store and forced me to ask for a refund

Mine was the opposite. She'd buy any book as long as we could afford it. However she had no concept of what a good book was, so I mostly asked for crappy fantasy.

Loved doing this too. I read entire series that way. Lots of other kids were doing the same actually. I always wondered why no one ever stopped us.
