Wonder in God's infinite grace
I'm rewatching Poirot (the endless series with David Suchet) and it's kind of notable the main reason you find out anyone is Catholic is because no divorce translates into murder motivation.
>>24700013
That series is amazing on so many levels.
However I don't think women understand or care about detective work or inference reasoning and it was all a facade so Agatha Christie could write about gossipy twaddle, love triangles and conniving minds.
If you think about it Poirot is nothing but a busybody who takes small talk and anecdotes at face value and then makes ridiculous conjectures based on paper-thin evidence and visual cues.
In the real world there could be a hundred reasons why someone would want to wear a hat slanted a certain way, but Poirot just 'knows' it was to cover an abusive husband's bruise on whom the lady took a deadly revenge on.

If we lived in a just world, everyone involved in shuttering USAID would be shot. But we don't live in a just world, so nothing will happen to them. Greatest crime of the century thus far. A bunch of 20 year olds got memed into retarded political faggotry and now hundreds of thousands, millions, tens of millions, will die for no fucking reason, many of them children. USAID was astonishingly cheap on the scale of the US federal budget. I will never forgive Luke Farritor, and I hope God punishes him for the rest of his life.

It was good PR for America but that was about it. There’s a reason the left opposed USAID: it didn’t address neoimperialism, capitalism, etc. and in reality those things are what keeps the countries the aid was being sent to poor. If anything USAID just makes America seem nicer without actually solving the problem America caused. That said, it was better than nothing, which is what we have now. The left predicted China would take the reins there but even if it does there will be avoidable harm done.

It does have devastating short term consequences, but long term I don't think they planned it out well either.
It exists largely to keep the illusion of the US as a superpower. Most superpowers had or have such a plan since the Cold War. China's One Road policy is but one example. These things don't exist because they're nice and charitable governments. They exist to give a sense of dependence, that things might be worse if X totalitarian government disappeared overnight. You can't keep yanking that and expect your codependent partner to not find another pimp. I'm not optimistic this leads to some greater self reliance. More likely it leads to other such programmes being able to afford the same kind of devil you know dependence for cheaper.
>>24700206
It's not really good PR. Very few people outside of the US will see it as a good thing. It's not really the charity that makes these places poor, it's that you won't pay a living wage to the farmer/miner/manufacturer where industries are thriving but low waged. Most of these countries declaring that they're going to stop exporting conflict minerals at slave wages and nationalise and unionise the whole thing is going to get them invaded as a cheaper option for developed countries. If you were American it would be like writing in the tip line

Both of these takes are right -- USAID was a tool of US imperialism and doesn't solve any underlying problems -- but the fact remains that millions of people depended on USAID food and medicine, and without it, they will simply die. /are dying right now. There's an argument to be made for rolling back USAID. I don't agree with that argument, but like, it could be made and I wouldn't immediately dismiss it. But there's no non-retarded justification for shuttering it the way they did. If you want to avoid millions of excess, needless, innocent deaths, you'd have to do a structured rollback over several years to give private orgs the time to fill in the humanitarian gap.
>self-reliance, keeps them poor
There's an argument to be made here too, but I don't think it's right, simply because you can lecture a classroom full of people on institution-building and the importance of rule of law and central banking all day long, but none of it matters if the class will starve to death at the end of the week.

I see this sort of arrogance in my liberal friends. They are nice people but they are utterly blind to the true costs of things. I remember when the first round of ICE/immigration drama occurred earlier this year one of them argued it was bad because “who will pick the fruits?” When I suggested we pay fruit-pickers more and thus encourage Americans to work such jobs, the reaction was “I don’t want to pay more for fruits!” (Mind you, I’m not anti-immigrant myself, but this being the logic behind supporting immigration is something I find appalling). They have the sort of reaction to onshoring manufacturing as well, because of the increase in the goods’ costs.
Implicitly these people are acknowledging that they are underpaying for the lifestyles and goods they enjoy. The true costs are much higher, and in fact you’re screwing over the Mexican migrant farm worker by not paying her what you would have to pay an American citizen to do the same job. But people don’t want to confront or fix that. Material concerns outweigh ethical concerns I guess.

You're right about this -- the kicker is that taking the aid away does actually starve people, you know? Like it's not a framing device or some kind of propaganda lie. That's just what happens. Take the aid away and a hundred thousand infants will just starve to death. Lots of my friends on the left won't acknowledge this, which is endlessly frustrating
>>24700307
>material concerns outweigh ethical concerns
Yeah, they always do; just with the USAID thing, the kicker is that two things are true at once. It's true that the Mexican farm worker's getting screwed over because his boss is underpaying him compared to what he'd pay an American, and it's true that underpaying the Mexican means that Americans get cheap produce. It's also true that the Mexican farmworker's making more money by getting screwed in America than he would be earning market rate at the same job in Mexico. We are a phenomenally rich country. This doesn't mean that it's fine to screw over the Mexican, he ought to be paid more.

We start from different assumptions about the world. I reject the claim that a race has something innate to it that no other race can have. I am civic nationalist in that sense.
All of this is fluff however. The core of the matter is in the West’s agricultural and industrial might. We are falling as a civilization because we are a husk, having exported our manufacturing to China. Bring back the factories, push more people to the rural parts of the West, and things would quickly begin to recover.

I think about this too. I try not to for my sanity.
Society will become increasingly low-trust, atomised, and segregated as ethnic/religious groups congregate. Crime will continue to increase. Islam may grow to become the majority religion in some European countries. Naturally, it will therefore represent a major political force and affect policy. It's unlikely that there will be any Islamic takeovers though.
Geopolitically, the West will continue to stagnate and weaken, crippled by social, cultural and ethnic infighting. Meanwhile, the cold, hard Chinese Han ethnostate, unified in belief, culture and race, will become world hegemon. Indian diasporas in countries like the UK, Canada and Australia will become significant enough in population that they become significant political blocs, probably affecting foreign policy regarding India.

The races can contract qualities from other races through racial mixing. This process causes social revolutions when the ruling class of the nation sticks to the old ways while the masses already adopted a new way of thinking. It can also happen the other way around. The masses remain the same, the ruling class becomes a group of foreigners: leadership is overthrown less the ruling class adopts the culture of the masses. Examples include Frankish France, Mongol China.

The Chinese have been playing the isolationist game forever, their government is too conservative to plan any kind of major conquests. The small colonies they sent to the West are barely noticed and the offspring mutts and assimilates to the culture with indifference.
The Middle Easterners are highly endogamous, like the Indians and rarely intermarry. Unlike the East Asians, these two groups will remain homogenous forever.
Then you have the Africans and the Latinos, quite indifferent to race, mutting and assimilating with indifference.
The whites seem, in regards to the upper and lower classes, indifferent to mutting, but rather conservative among the populous middle classes.
So there will be a bunch of mutts among a bunch of whites, among a bunch of Middle Easterners and Indians, and they will all participate in government, like is already the case in places like the UK.
I can well imagine that there will be some sort of separationist movements in Europe built by unhappy white middle classes desiring a country without immigrants, but unable to sway the ruling class over to their side (mutted as they are but still white enough to ensure government principle).
We do not know the scale of this hidden movement, the potency of it's believers, nor how far the ruling classes will go to crush them.

This painting depicts the temptation of Christ, and the devil here is depicted as a warlord.
When tempted by the devil to worship him, Jesus Christ, peace be upon him, rejected him and said we should only worship God.
Satanists, may God curse them, promote worshiping the self. They believe you should make yourself into your own personal god to worship.
Jesus Christ, peace be upon him, worshiped God instead. This is the First Commandment. Monotheism. From Abraham, peace be upon him.
The Early Church, long before the contemporary doctrines of Christianity, represents the purest form of Christianity in my view as a Muslim and those Christians had a key role in the birth of Islam. Such as Bahira and Waraqah ibn Nawfal.
Muslims believe that Islam is the way of Jesus Christ, peace be upon him. He worshiped God and God alone. This is the Sunnah of the prophets. The Scripture of the prophets teaches that the antichrist will declare himself as God instead.

The Chinese will try to take control of Taiwan eventually. In the meantime they won't attempt any conquests, but they will continue to exercise their growing economic power and grow their sphere of influence.
White separatist movements won't be a thing. They'd be considered extremist groups and shut down immediately. There probably won't be any significant change to the direction of travel. Western media, institutions and leaders are for the most part ideologically captured by globalism and are hell bent on imposing it on the Western population as fast as possible.
Western countries will probably end up as the "second world", with living standards remaining much higher than third world countries but eventually lagging behind those of a handful of Asian countries like China, SK, Japan, Singapore etc.

Unless it has a major right wing movement (like the Sanseitoū) take political dominance, it will end up with the same fate as the west. I feel pity for my mother. All she wanted in life was to be a mother and a grandmother, and now she can't see her grandchild who lives in the same city as her. I am a lonely recluse who won't give her the future she wished for. I feel sorry for her because the reality of her life is sad and lonely and it won't get better. My sister is mentally ill and won't be having children. I feel a bit ashamed of how my family has developed. We are spread across the country and disconnected. I don't even desire connection at this point. It's too late. I envy orphans for their freedom. A life of unfulfilled expectations. It isn't so uncommon. It could be much worse. My brother was supposed to be the well adjusted one. It's tragic, but whatever... so my mother is depressed, there's nothing I can do; I am depressed too. I would only solidify her thoughts. I've never even considered her committing suicide until this instant... It does run in the family... I think I would feel relief if my mother killed herself. I would feel justified in my feelings toward life, if my mother killed herself. How could I live after that... Jesus Christ what a shitshow my bitch sister in law has created. I would prefer a more spectacular tragedy. I just want to be left alone. I'm not sure I care very much. I wanted to estrange myself and now my brother has stolen the privilege from me. Now I'm obligated to compensate for his rejection of my mother. What do I care... And now a new woman has drifted into my life and we've become tangled and I am setting the stage for another banal tragedy. Well, we are all only playing our parts. I'll try not to take it to seriously. I miss my dogs. I want to get a dog.

I've always been surprised by how many tragedies people can survive without losing hope. She may never have her big happy family, or smiling kids at the dinner table, or laughing grandchildren underneath a Christmas Tree, but if you are trying and you are writing these banal tagedies, then there may still be hope in her mind. People will take that hope even to the grave.

I am sorry for what promises to be a long blog post. I've been stuck with like three or four intertwined ideas and I can't make sense of them or make them work. I read Wurmser's 'Mask of Shame,' which I found to be incredibly accurate. I realized I live a shame-filled life, and that my 'wanting to know' and dysfunction is rooted in this in some ways. Because of this realization I've regressed into very bad habits (and even started binging amine again). I also realized that everyone feels shame, I think. Our culture is one of shame, in a lot of different ways. This fills me with despair. I cannot believe that we are ok with things being the way that they are, and that I am not abnormally weak. This is suicide inducing. I've shifted to the right since (slowly very slowly) starting the canon in the sense that there's a now-dated idea of 'human' or man that I think is worth protecting. I don't know what to do with this, or my belief that the middle class (or whatever you want to insert here, the 'middle-brow' the 'mean) is worth protecting. It feels naive to pretend that everyone can achieve some insight or creative growth or even actualization. Still, I think that leisure and contemplation can be enjoyed by all, but we've created a world where that doesn't seem to happen. Obviously it's choice up to a point, but phones and the internet have made careful and focused thought totally absent in the 'middle.' We've built a world antithetical to human flourishing, one that results in shame and a loss of true leisure and in the collapse of the middle. I would have liked to have enjoyed an a-typical self destruction, but instead I realized that everyone is destroying themselves in the same way. My internet promised to be strange and exciting and isolating. Was your internet the same way? At any rate, I feel like there's some through line or thing connecting these that I can't see. t. buzzed.

You deserve less than other people. You are less than other people. Accept it now or continue to suffer and cause problems.
Nothing is too demeaning. Nothing is too painful. You are lower than other people and it is just and right for you to suffer if it benefits others.
You can never have self-worth of any kind. It blinds you to the simpler fact that you are a lower form of life. You become arrogant and just end up causing problems and burdening other, more valuable people.
You can have no dreams. You can have no comforts. You can have no relationships above those of object and user.
>I just wanted to have someone who-
Shut up. You don't deserve it. You don't deserve anything you want. You deserve to suffer. What you want is irrelevant except when others deservingly receive what you wished for and you deservedly suffer for it.
No one will ever save you. No one cares. It will never get better. Your fate is to suffer in this life and suffer in the next. You deserve it. You do.

I see this big fat homeless man sitting cross-legged and shirtless near the river every time I go for a run. He has a massive stomach and sits with great posture. He is insane. I hear him speaking to himself. It's hard for me to contain my laughter when I see him. I see him at the turn-around point in my run, so recently I've started walking as I pass him, so I can get a better sense of him.
He makes me laugh because he reminds me of a big fat stupid pig. He sits there so fat and shamelessly... it's hilarious. He is so proud in his sloth and stupidity, and he is angry. He stares at me while he's talking to himself with a challenge in his eyes. He reminds me of this description from The Temptation of St. Anthony:
>The Catoblepas
>(A black buffalo with a pig's head, falling to the ground, and attached to his shoulders by a neck long, thin, and flaccid as an empty gut.
>He wallows flat upon the ground, and his feet entirely disappear beneath the enormous mane of coarse hair which covers his face):
>"Fat, melancholy, fierce—thus I continually remain, feeling against my belly the warmth of the mud. So heavy is my skull that it is impossible for me to lift it. I roll it slowly all around me, open-mouthed; and with my tongue I tear up the venemous plants bedewed with my breath. Once, I even devoured my own feet without knowing it!
>"No one, Anthony, has ever beheld mine eyes,—or at least, those who have beheld them are dead. Were I to lift my eyelids—my pink and swollen eyelids, thou wouldst forthwith die!"
>Anthony. "Oh, that one! Ugh! As though I could desire it?—Yet his stupidity fascinates me! No, no! I will not!"
>(He gazes fixedly upon the ground.
>But the weeds take fire; and amidst the contorsions of the flames, arises)....
He is so stupid and fat and crazy that it's divine.

Can someone explain what "tragic" means? On one hand, hearing people use it in everyday speech, like "oh what a tragic death," it's usually used in the sense of something that shouldn't have happened, like a car accident of a young woman. Then you read Aristotle and the Greek tragedians and other literary minded writers, and there tragic seems to be almost the opposite, a death or similar disastrous end that can happen to anyone out of the fact of human nature, like a marriage or familial bond ending out of avoidable miscommunications, misunderstandings, and distrust.
And surely it doesn't just mean "sad," so can someone help me out here, please?

It does basically. A tragedy is a play with a sad ending, comedies are the ones with happy endings, and Homer is the third genre. Or at least that's how it started out as a classification system.
>shouldn't have happened
Doesn't really exist for Greeks. There's acts of gods and stuff to explain shit that shouldn't have happened explains in modern times (eg the god of earthquakes is the god of betting on horses and horses a symbol of misfortune not just because of the wooden one)

like all the time you're bald you're asleep? are evergreens just chronic insomniacs? there's a theory they go to sleep at night because they droop their branches and no sun for photosynthesis etc, but it's also what they do anytime it's cold, so maybe they're just cold?
I think they're probably awake at night and they look like they're metabolically more active in the days and summer because that's when they look like they're eating and warm, like napping on warm milk and cookies, but they slow down and drop at night because they're mostly all teenagers so their waking hours are the ones where they're slouching and eating a shitty diet and wearing inappropriate for the weather coverings
I bet it's only old and demented trees that wake up during the day instead of spending it replenishing from last night's plans
