I am sorry for what promises to be a long blog post. I've been stuck with like three or four intertwined ideas and I can't make sense of them or make them work. I read Wurmser's 'Mask of Shame,' which I found to be incredibly accurate. I realized I live a shame-filled life, and that my 'wanting to know' and dysfunction is rooted in this in some ways. Because of this realization I've regressed into very bad habits (and even started binging amine again). I also realized that everyone feels shame, I think. Our culture is one of shame, in a lot of different ways. This fills me with despair. I cannot believe that we are ok with things being the way that they are, and that I am not abnormally weak. This is suicide inducing. I've shifted to the right since (slowly very slowly) starting the canon in the sense that there's a now-dated idea of 'human' or man that I think is worth protecting. I don't know what to do with this, or my belief that the middle class (or whatever you want to insert here, the 'middle-brow' the 'mean) is worth protecting. It feels naive to pretend that everyone can achieve some insight or creative growth or even actualization. Still, I think that leisure and contemplation can be enjoyed by all, but we've created a world where that doesn't seem to happen. Obviously it's choice up to a point, but phones and the internet have made careful and focused thought totally absent in the 'middle.' We've built a world antithetical to human flourishing, one that results in shame and a loss of true leisure and in the collapse of the middle. I would have liked to have enjoyed an a-typical self destruction, but instead I realized that everyone is destroying themselves in the same way. My internet promised to be strange and exciting and isolating. Was your internet the same way? At any rate, I feel like there's some through line or thing connecting these that I can't see. t. buzzed.

On one hand, hearing people use it in everyday speech, like "oh what a tragic death," it's usually used in the sense of something that shouldn't have happened, like a car accident of a young woman. The more I run into the homeless, the more I loathe and fear them. Years ago, I was filled with pity and a sense of shared humanity, but that weakens every day. I feel worse for how my heart has hardened than I do for them, and I blame them for this change rather than myself. That’s probably the issue, since laying the blame at their feet just feeds into my disgust. I can still understand on some rational level that homelessness is partly the result of systemic issue outside of any one individual’s control, but that doesn’t register for me emotionally anymore.

i know that feeling with the homeless, i moved to neighborhood with a way better commute but its filled with homeless, mainly cuz there's a liquor store on the block, but the thing i've discovered after living here for a while is many of them are not really even homeless... they get section eight or live in shelters or public housing, they just go out to beg for money to get extra drugs when their gibs checks run out and apparently just choose poor hygiene cuz they're nuts. basically, you just have to ignore them and walk past like they don't even exist. a guy smelling like shit and demanding pocket change does not make him entitled to my attention, pity, or care.

I was homeless when I was 18 and saw first hand how bad they really are. A small section of the homeless are genuinely homeless (I wasn't, it was for "mental health" reasons) and the majority are either cracked out psychopaths or psychopaths that fucked everyone and every thing that would help them.

This social issue is probably similar to muh police brutality in the U.S., where a vanishingly small percentage is blown out of proportion to justify aggressively bad policy. Media (like movies) hyperfocus on the extremely few cases of people who were failed by the system, and it heavily distorts how people see the homeless or the police or whatever else.

All taxes do is make government spending be dependent on the economic output of consumers, which ensures inflation is kept in check.
Taxing outliers that don't spend a large portion of their money on consumer goods doesn't do that, all it does is reduce economic output and justify spending the system can't handle.

Last night I dreamed I was a live in sub for a group of dominatrixes at what seemed to be a blend of a large gloomy house and a YMCA (though no weight lifting room). I've been homeless as well, and my experience with the population definitely changed my views of them. Even my experience was a bit tilted since I was sleeping in my car and working fulltime, so I rarely interacted with the bottom "I often fall asleep shirtless in an alleyway while doing meth" population, but it does make it easier now for me to recognize people who like myself went to some effort to conceal their homelessness from coworkers and general society.

I've also done a small bit of homeless benefit volunteer work, and talked with a few whose entire life was that charity work. They confirm that although all fellow humans deserve compassion, it's a very small percentage of the destitute homeless who even want to improve, and of course few of them are able after what the lifestyle does to you.

Living in the car is a different story, there's a very wide range. I've met white collar profesionals whose job was eliminated and havent lowered themselves mentally to working a "lower class" job, so they're sleeping in the backseat of their Bronco. Guys like myself working labor jobs, just trying to stay alive without giving their entire paycheck to a landlord in exchange for a grimy bed. Then ranging up, of course you see the lower-tier trust fund kids living out of a clumsily-converted 2500 van, and families in old Dolphins sleeping in a Walmart parking lot.
