For most people? No. Kirk was a propagandist and genocidal agitator for death cult conservatism. He was an actively dangerous person. The American conservative movement has deemed itself immune to retributory violence which is why they're lashing out so desperately over this. The reality is that they advocate for violence, so they also open themselves up as legitimate targets for violence. The only people who have a good reason to be really saddened by this are obviously people who actually kne w him personally, friends, family, etc. Even the worst of the worst are people, and their attachments to him will extend beyond his politics. It's sad that his children will grow up fatherless. He advocated for a whole lot of fathers to be killed though! So it's not strange, nor 'undeserved' (nobody deserves anything) that this would happen.

This can't both simultaneously be true. That said, Russian aggression is constantly downplayed by both parties frankly and its really due to cowardice. These constant accusations of "warmongering" for trying to defend allies of democracy against tyrants have completely cut the balls off every American politician when we absolutely should be stepping up and getting more aggressive and involved.

How is this not a loss to western tradition? He attempted to recreate the public arena of rhetoric in a modern agora and to popularize debate of ideas.
