How philosophy becomes self-help
>no metaphysics
>no mention of collective action
>idea of indefinite historical stagnation

Say what you guys will, but I think his book "Models" was pretty good. Haven't read this one though, and I don't plan to either.

I didn't read any of his books. I just thought it was the most well-known contemporary self help book.

Both Models and the Subtle Art are garbage. Manson is the archetypal pickup artist in his regret phase, where he has realized that clowning himself in order to get women doesn't fill the gaping void in his soul and has switched to philosophy/religion.
It happens to literally all of them, their problem isn't lack of sex or lack of god, their problem is that they're broken empty shells of a human being who are incapable of experiencing happiness so they jump from silver bullet to silver bullet until they end up with a self-administered bullet injection

Most self help books have little to do with philosophy.
They don't tell you what they believe is right based on the philosophical system they follow, they tell you what is 'good' for you. Just literally what makes you feel good, even if its a complete lie, just to make you fill fulfilled and to buy the next book.

This book is trash and so is the author. As far as I remember he once did a YouTube video where he ranked different philosophies. Seems like he took it down. And when watching it you noticed that he had absolutely no idea. Not even the basics. His idea of Stoicism was 'Suppressing all emotion until you become emotionless.' I mean bro... If you write trashy self help at least know the basic of Stoicism.

Flawed premise easily refuted by Chadfishing. He pays some lip service to looks, but looks are #1 priority.

I worked with a guy who read that book. He would read it it at work and his reactions were so similar to you post I cannot stop laughing.
>IT HAS SWEAR WORDS ON THE COVER BRO!!!
>HOLY FUCK, THIS GUY ISN'T PULLING ANY PUNCHES AND WILL BE DROPPING TRVKES
>*bro starts reading*
>"you just gotta carry on carrying on..."
>hell yeah dude
>bro, thats so deep

Listening to him talk about the book as he read it is still one of the most fun literary experiences of my life. The problem is, after reading the book, he continued being the same black-head as before.

The "me vs. the world" narrative is a cultural expression of hyper-individualism, the self-interest maximizing agent who is in an de-facto war against all others to maximize game points.

It's adversarial dynamics projected onto the metaphysical.

To be fair, yeah, I would agree that looks are number 1 priority. But I also agree with what he said about how looks are supposed to be reflections of your inner state. Being alright with yourself can push you to take care of yourself (and your looks).
That, and I don't think Models was supposed to be an actual "dating book" as far as "getting a girl" is concerned. It's more of a self-help book about being honest with yourself and being alright if you don't get the girl (while still having the confidence to try again with another one). All while having a fairly fulfilling life.

Yeah, the whole "not giving a fuck" thing is basically premised on you being uniquely correct about everything and everyone around you being a stupid asshole. Sometimes this is the case, but sometimes you need actually give a fuck about what other people think. We were evolved to be social creatures; we just have to be judicious about whose opinions we care about.
