It doesn't seem like a book that lens itself to being handwritten especially in feminine handwriting. I could see certain books, like We have Always Lived in the Castle, being boosted by such a format. Nothing this chud is probably reading though.
I'm also cynical and suspicious of over the top gestures like this. Whenever I've had them done "for me," they were never for me. They were always intended as demonstrations of how great they are and why I should feel lucky they're interested in me / dating me. When it came to stuff I actually needed or wanted, they were never paying attention.

It just seems bizarre to me. This isn't a "cute little souvenir"; it's something that must have taken her weeks of daily writing. It's like if my girlfriend copied out Bach's Mass in B minor by hand and gave it to me. I would think, "that's an amazing feat... but what the absolute fuck, and why?" Why not just make something simpler or buy me something I would actually use?

It would be easy for someone to turn this into, "look what I did for you, now you owe me closeness, loyalty, attention." I could never reciprocate with something so monotonous and frankly pointless. This kind of one-upping gift giving feels bizarre and insecure to me.

When you're getting a gift for someone you should be thinking of the other person's pleasure and happiness - it should be a selfless thing. But what does this actually do for your partner? What's the utility? It's completely about showing off your devotion. And putting your beloved in the awkward position of having to read a more difficult version of a text to show they 'appreciate' what you did for them

It's not a question of sincerity or insincerity - it's the sheer amount of time that she has devoted to this token of affection that is causing so many seething cope posts from anon.

This board prides itself on being so-called romantic, then anon see a post about a wife who has diligently transcribed by hand every single line of a novel that her husband loves as a gift to him, and these self-styled romantics - who post on a literature board - pretend like it's giving them the ick. They're imploding with envy.

I'm not sure if all the anons acting as if she's some psycho manipulator are right, but I feel like the guy instinctively knows that the book is basically worthless. It's a sign of devotion that he has to respect, yet he knows that he'd prefer a normal printed version.
It's just weird. I'd understand if she did it 200 years ago, when books were still very valuable, or if she did it to share some banned book, but this serves no purpose at all.

She's most likely harmless. Most of us learn the hard way that these types of "thoughtful" gifts actually suck. Kind of weird to learn that lesson when already in a marriage though. The post also said the first "gift" was a bag of empty pens to show how much effort she expended.

This is more of a bizarre display of affection than a gift. A gift has to be useful or enjoyable to the receiver. You could say the thought counts but what was the thought behind this? I'd be questioning her intelligence based on the amount of time she spent on something pointless. Jokes aside I did have an artist gf back in the day and some of you are very correct about the loaded gift phenomenon. She just liked painting shit. Painted hats. Painted portraits. Some of them were dope. But she was really doing it to be praised for doing it, not to make me happy. Like you really think I'm gonna wear a hat with bright faggy colors all over it to work? A faggy colorful hat with my name in huge lettering on it? She didn't give me that gift for me to enjoy and use, she was just hoping it would end up on display somewhere in the house. A conversation starter. A reason to talk about herself. A reason to praise her talents.

I had a bit of a skitzo friend that was always falling for cults. He was part of some Turkish religion where you have to rewrite their entire bible by hand. They also had a religious ritual where you involving phone calls to the religious leader and it needs someone from outside the religion to make the call, it was very weird. He was carefully respectfully trying to get me to help them with their ritual.

Later he also was getting close to becoming a tranny and everyone was cheering him on. I told him people are excited now, but it will become normal and boring and also that a large number of medical transitioned tranny's kill themselves. He got really angry with me and said he thought we were friends. I told him we are friends and why do you think I'm telling you this?

He ended up not transitioning.

Listen, I'll make it really simple, because you're clearly a simpleton:

Have you ever woken up and still been mad at some chan thread you read before sleeping? - No? Me neither. This is a unique form of spergery, which is what I was commenting on specifically. It points to anon being mad about something other than that which he claimed, something more persona, and I contended this was related to some form of jealously (likely in want to experience some inordinate degree of devotion).

It's not difficult to understand this. There are probably Somalians smarter than you.

When I asked why he had considered becomeing transgender before he said he saw the caitlyn jenner reveal and thought he could pave the way for other transgenders to be more accepted. Which was dumb, because he was typically regarded as a clown by other people. Likeable but not charismatic.

Look, I'm currently fat. If someone calls me fat that isn't bullying, it's truth. If I call a group incels by its precise definition, celibates that are so involuntary, that is truth.

Accept the truth. These type of truths can be changed, a lot of the time. But why deny them or feel bad about them while they are true?

A lot of the time the bullied is complicit by letting it happen. Don't whine. Ignore for what doesn't matter and fight back when it does.

Now that I think about it, my first girlfriend printed out all sonnets of shakespeare, burned the corners of the papers and bound them into a little booklet.

People in this thread say they find writing out the full thing performative or attentiongrabbing, but I think it's really sweet. The gift is what an effort it cost. Every single word you read will be penned by her hand. Every second she worked on it she thought about you. I never received anything taking that level of effort but I know I would deeply appreciate it as long as it's at least tangentially related to something I like.

Whether you can read it well or not is irrelevant. It's not for reading.
The act of writing the words and giving them to him was the gift rather than reading them. The wife is showing her dedication to her husband. She's making a sacrifice of time and effort to him.
The fact it's Cormac rather than some other author that is more romantic is because the choice of book is about building up the husband and the literature he likes, and showing that the wife understands that. It's also possibly a social gift in that he can present it to other people who will think it is cool, and demonstrate to them that he has a wife who is both dedicated and herself cool and into the books he thinks are cool. People like people who are already liked by others, because it lets them skip the work of figuring out whether they're good or not.
